What next? Period Pain + Trying to Conceive

Hello!

I have suffered with pretty severe period pain since the age of 16 (I'm 21 now), however over the last year or so it has gotten considerably worse and is now usually accompanied by vomiting and diarrhoea.

I have had bloods and ultrasounds and the doctors cannot seem to find anything to suggest what is causing the symptoms. The only solution I have been offered is contraceptives to stop my periods, which is a no go as we've been trying to conceive for the last 5 months.

Any ideas what I could ask for from my GP?

Thanks

Hannah

Hi Hannah😊

Knowing you're going to have this every month must be awful.

I can understand it seems illogical to take hormonal birth control when you're actively trying to become pregnant. Although this wouldn't guarantee to stop the pain cycle, perhaps the doctors think taking this for a while would give your system a rest and in the end increase your possibility of becoming pregnant.

They must have exhausted all recommended tests before suggesting birth control but if you look on the following website it outlines procedure in cases like yours.
