in need to lose weight before graduation

Hi guys, my graduation is gonna be on 25th of May, and I want to lose weight so bad.. I've been trying since August 2022, I always lose a few kilos, but then regain everything back with even more weight.. I'm 163 cm and 77.5 kg rn, so I'm really overweight.. I want to go down to 60 kg or even less.. but idk what to do, it feels like I don't have enough time, and I'll end up showing ugly beside my friends.. any tips on losing weight like really fast? without regaining everything back as well? Any recs for workouts that gives results quickly? especially ones that focus on toning the lower body?

Hello soso75 and welcome to the forum :)

Sounds like you realise that rapid loss is soon followed by a gain so, hard as it is, I wouldn't recommend that route. But you have three months to make a difference that you will really notice: if you go for a sustainable plan, you can have some short term gains (I mean losses!) and continue onto long term success.

Members here follow a variety of plans. If you engage with the daily diary, weigh in and other activities - find them all here healthunlocked.com/weight-l... - you can chat and here different stories.

If you're looking for a simple and sustainable plan that you can adapt to your tastes, I think this is a good starting point phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Wishing you success in making the changes you want and need :)

Hi soso75! Firstly I want to second what bridgegirl has already said. You've tried the fast weight loss method and it hasn't worked, it's lead to more weight gain and it's not the way forward now either. You still have 14 weeks before graduation, if you follow a more sustainable plan fairly strictly from now till then you could realistically get to 70kg or even a little bit less! And hopefully it would stay off as well making you more healthier long term 🙂

Have a look into different plans and see if any suit you. A lot of people start with the NHS weight loss app which is a 12 week plan or alternatively you could try low carb or something else, there's lots of options!

One other thing, you mention you don't want to look ugly next to your friends. Well let me tell you that weighing more than someone else does not make you less beautiful! And you can still be kind to yourself and like how you look while still wanting to lose weight.

Best of luck for your weight loss journey 🙂

I totally agree with Sheepfan . If you lost 7kg which from my experience isn't easy - I am being honest then you would see such a difference both physically and mentally .

How to start. Almost take this like a new job that you don't learn or do all at once . I found for the first month use the free MyFitnesspal app and log in or barcode scan all your food . I am not crazy tech savvy but I managed it. I didn't use this app forever as I found it was getting a nuisance but great to see what is actually in your food and the max recommendations for daily eating. Set yourself a realistic calorie goal say 1400-1500 cals a day . I made the mistake of setting mine around 1250 which some days - yes great but others and trying to sustain that was misery and controlling .Meal plan and only buy what is on those plans if its not in the cupboard you can't eat it .Go shopping when you have eaten - never hungry. I saved money by not buying rubbish . If you are doing this right you should see your grocery bills decreasing.

Try 3 meals a day and no snacks with no eating after 7pm . Harsh - yes but this has worked for me and 2 friends . Set a simple free step counter on your phone. I couldn't shed weight with no exercise so run through You Tube . I am 62 but can do an hour of Zumba and when you are hungry - coat on and walk .

Cravings initially at night - I sipped low cal hot chocolate after a bath . Skipped forward every TV advert or ideally record everything . Fruit tea if left a good 5 min - the blackcurrant and mixed berries are like sugarless cordial but manageable. Yes - this is tough at first but isn't everything new ? You got through Uni so amazing ! Congrats and sensibly given yourself time .

Just an idea of what I eat - Breakfast - Porridge made with water . 1 tablespoon full fat Greek yogurt and fruit of choice normally frozen berries or a banana especially when I am exercising . Lunch - half tub cottage cheese flavoured or not or canned tuna or 2 egg omelette with large what I want salad . Handful of unsalted nuts . I buy almonds from the home baking aisle . Evening meal - large chicken breast , fish - if frozen just the breaded or lightly dusted not battered with mountain of any veg . Twice a week I have a jacket potato and once a week brown rice or brown pasta so three times a week I don't have anything but a load of either frozen , canned or fresh veg plus protein .Lean pork medallions make a change .Drinks . I like tonic water which I squeeze bottled lemon or lime juice into . Fruit tea and one dolce gusto morning coffee per day . Plenty of plain tap water too. Fill at bottle and keep near you .This sounds strict and harsh but this is now done on auto. My skin is clear . I started at 80kg . I maintain at 62/4kg . I am 5ft 1 so not skinny but at my age I don't want to be . I have a flat stomach and bingo wings - can't have it all but that confidence allowed me two years ago to interview ,have a choice of 4 jobs and not worry my 5 sporty kids.

I dropped 30Kg in 3 months using the Fast 800. Over 2 years I put half back on, I am an emotional eater and had a stressy time. Back on track to right weight myself.

Hi Soso75,

How about taking up running - it’s an inexpensive option for exercise, the only thing you will need is decent trainers, the rest of the stuff you will already have. It’s a time-effective way of moving more, you don’t have to fit your schedule around a class time, or wait for the gym to be less busy. Start with the Couch to 5k app, get some tunes going via Spotify and you are off!

A great way to aid weight loss and tone the lower body, you are at the right time of year to get going, if you stuck with it by May you could easily be running 10K 2/3 times weekly. It’s great for your mental health, is likely to improve sleeping and of course your overall general health and fitness. What is there not to like?

Well done on your studies btw and good luck with your weight loss plan x

You can do it..just cut out junk foods and gave 3 healthy meals a day My fitness pal is good for checking intake per day Drink water daily 2 litres is good herbal teas are water too green tea When you want a snack cut up some cucumber and celery Its breaking habits that put on weight and making new ones that help you slim down. You tube has exercises to tone for specific areas Walk daily Keep busy..if mot, you think of food to eat for something to do. Never starve ..just eat healthy you'll do it don't stress

I only got the motivation by looking or not wanting to look in a mirror. Women and to a larger extent than a few years ago men are judged on their appearance 24/7 . I only gained confidence when my weight decreased. I wasn’t convinced by any kind words and assurance that I had a beautiful smile and an insane personality. The determination came from my body shape and the scales . I can harp on about influencers and social media but even in the 70’s teen mags were full of eating programmes and pictures of slim women.

Firstly congrats on your upcoming graduation and I agree with all the previous posts about taking it slowly so the weight stays off, maybe try intermittent fasting, definitely drink more water I was told when I was feeling like having a snack to drink some water or a herbal tea wait 30 minutes to see if I was really hungry or just dehydrated. Wishing you all the best

I feel if I am brutally honest - I have 5 boys - the oldest who is overweight concerns me as men’s health wasn’t as much focused on as it is now . Their problems seemed almost taboo as my Dad was growing up and in elderly care many common issues were undiagnosed and in some cases weren’t treated properly. We are seeing more men with heart disease and diabetes so our weight , diet , exercise is becoming more important. Irrespective of the commercial gains I still see it as paramount to our success as individuals to be healthy . It’s pointless striving to be a billionaire if the last 30 years of your life are spent regretting the previous 20 of indulgence which is irreversible health wise . So I strive to be lean, be mean and controlling with myself . It is not just judgement but statistics that show us most healthy elderly people are slim and can be as bad tempered and rude as they like coz that’s what keeps them strong .

I recently brought a short e book called Slender Slim Body. I weren't expecting miracles because I can never shed the fat but after 4 weeks I lost 1/2 stone. I am sooooo happy for first time see me losing all the fat. I'm still having a cake every single day. I feel like fool cause all the books are pointless it really is common sense.
