I will try to make this time diffrent

Hello everyone! Another newbie here, cool to meet y'all :) I am mainly here because I dont really have anyone in my "real life" to talk about this stuff, so figured I might try here.

I feel like i have been trying to lose weight for like good 4 years now, but I have not really gotten anywhere. Having that on the back of my mind constantly while not really moving toward that goal is real frustaraiting and making me feel real spineless. Especially when seeing other people are being so strong.

The one thing that I change now is will not make any big promises to myself. I guess I will just try to find some activity that I geniuenly enjoy (kinda interested in lifting) and just eat more whole foods. I will try to build up my mental strength so someday I can really be proud of who I have become, both mentally and physically.

I guess this was more like a diary entry, so sorry about that, but I hope some of you can relate! I will probably write again, since it helps me sort out my stuff a little more lol

If anyone reads this, thank you and hope you have a real good day! xo

Hi and welcome, Feldgrau :)

We often take a different route to get here, but once we arrive find it's the place we've always been looking for. The support and collective experience and knowledge to be found is sure to help you reach your goals.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l... and we hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially the weigh-in and daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi there. Your story is one that many here can relate to. The hardest part is to really, really get our heads in the right place. Wanting to be lighter and doing the things that make it happen are not the same. Something I have needed to work on myself. You will have days where you feel invincible and days where you wonder why you bother. Always try to remember that you are bothering as you deserve an long and healthy life. Join us on one of the daily weigh ins and take the support on offer. You will make friends and we are all work in progress.

Hi there, you sound a lot like me I accept that I am very overweight I am now 117 KG and I should be between 59-79 KG so I need to loose between 58- 38 KG every now and then I try to lose it but being disabled there is very little exercise I can manage as even trying to stand up becomes very painful after a few minutes most of the time I cannot walk much more than 5 to 10 meters unless I am able to lean on something to take the weight off my back hips and knees (I broke my back in 4 places along with badly damaging both knees and hips which started arthritis in almost every joint) so even when I try to lose weight I only manage to keep to the diet for a few days until I just give up I know I suffer from depression and when I feel low I eat to pass the time as it is seldom I go out and living on my own does not help as I can sit here for weeks at a time and not talk to anyone except for the postman and that is only a few words at a time, good luck with loosing the weight, Regards Poppy Ann.

Hi Poppy_Ann, I refer you back to the replies you had to your post last week, especially the one from moreless when she welcomed you to the forum healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

Exercise has little or nothing to do with weight loss, as repeated by Dr Michael Mosley on Channel 4 yesterday evening. He was scathing about the NHS's continued use of advice about, and images of, exercise in relation to weight loss.

Exercise has many benefits but little to do with weight loss. In your position, I would focus on what and how you eat, starting with reading and viewing the links that moreless gave you.

All the best

Hey, i am sorry that you have to deal with that... I have had a few friends with chronic pain too and I know it is one of the hardest things to go trought. I also suffer from depression (though it has been getting better) and i know how it can make losing weight so much harder. No point in losing weight if you don't really care anyway, right?

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that you are a very strong person based ln what you said and I am proud that you are still trying. Everything BridgeGirl said was great and just remember that losing weight would probably help with the pain too, so don't give up! I have tried to start some new hobbies that i actually enjoy, to get my mind off food and how I am feeling, if it is possible you could try to find something like that too? And if you have not, please try to get professional help for you mental health, it has helped me with a lot!

Best of luck, hopefully you can find friends here too!

Unsure on your personal level of fitness but even after Covid restriction lifting I vowed not to go back to group exercise that I paid for in the gym but after almost 2 years of You Tube I feel I need to be round people . There is also a walking group in my area so I am wondering if - like me you need a bit of company for motivation and also a timetable . Diary your eating and watch portions . It is a task but I just did this for a month until I was mentally and physically cleansed of all the nasties . Don't replace those snacks . Simply 3 meals a day . I found I could eat enough with 400 , 400 , 600 cals for meals plus 100/50 for drinks and extras . Don't be a slave to the scales . Once a week is enough and just think what it is doing internally too . Liver disease isn't the buzz word but there are so many of us with damaged internal organs and not just those who are looking to shed kilos .

Let us all know your progress . It is starting that is difficult but do this as lifestyle - never diet.

I am defintely like you in that i really need timetable and preferably a friend to keep me accountable, otherwise I will always bail on exercise! I have been thinking about starting with some crossfit classes since that would both give me goals and a timetable, but we will see. That diary idea sounds great, just writing something here already helped. Thanks a lot for the advise and it is great to hear somebody has succeeded in what I am trying to do!

I hope you have a great day!

Loosing weight is more about the things that you eat than how much you eat or how much exersise you take so cut out the bad foods first like processed food including bread and other wheat based products. refined sugar, sodas and fruit juice. Lifting weights is excellent for weight loss because it increases muscle mass which is a major store of glycogen and the more glycogen you can store the less will be available for your liver to turn into triglycerides which are the building blocks of adipose tissue (body fat).
