Daily Diary for Wednesday 1st September 2021

Happy 1st September everyone!

I know not everyone likes the end of summer, so I thought I'd find a reminder of how beautiful autumn can be. I love it! What about everyone else? What do you think about the changing season?

I'm also looking forward to seeing how all your menu plans start to change as different fruit and veg come into season and the days get cooler, and of course trying some of them out myself.

Anyone new to the Daily Diary (DD) - WELCOME! This is a wonderfully inclusive and supportive environment where we learn and get support from each other, and in particular get encouragement to stick to our plans.

To get full benefit from the DD record your menu for the day and include the particular plan you are following, for example calorie counting, intermittent fasting, low carb etc. That way your fellow diarists can offer focussed support, suggestions and advice. This should always be constructive and in the spirit of positive support, although remember that this will be based on personal experience, belief and opinion, and not on professional expertise. You might also want to share your exercise plans for the day and some people include their targets too (e.g. reaching a particular weight, losing a particular amount, maintaining the weight they've achieved).

Receiving encouragement really does help, so do try and respond to each other, even if it's only a few words.

If you really like the sound of a menu, don't be shy, ask for the recipe, and feel free to share photos of your meals too.

Here's my plan for 1st September. Based on the NHS BMI plan I'm currently aiming for 1890 calories a day to try and lose enough weight to get me from obese to overweight, after which I'll review the plan to make sure t is the right one to take me to the next stage of being "ideal".

Breakfast; Yoghurt and berries

Lunch: Asparagus omelette and salad

Tea: Veggie noodle stir-fry

Drinks: Coffee x 2, Tea and water with lemon (I haven't been great at hitting my water intake targets recently so an extra effort on my part is needed)

Exercise: Indoor walking DVD at least.

Over to you all!

Also, summer is normally very hot and humid and I hate humidity.Autumn is usually cooler but never cold here.

Hi Grigid, and thanks for hosting! Beautiful picture. I do like the beauty and fruitfulness of autumn. Another thing that I like about the colder weather is all the lovely cosy jumpers and scarves that I can wear. My workroom was a bit chilly today - it's OK whenthe sun shines, but otherwise not.

I am getting back into the swing of loosely low carb, three meals a day, while majoring on produce from my garden.

B: Greek yogurt, raspberries and keto nutty granola.

L: broad bean hummus and veg sticks.

D: frittata with lots of garden vegetables. Blackcurrant panna cotta.

Exercise: despite saying on Tues that I had no time for exercise, I did a little at lunchtime by hauling watering cans about to give pots a drink in the garden. I quite enjoyed that as a way to get a little exercise without leaving the premises (which makes me a bit nervous when all the work is online). So I will try something similar again.

Wishing everyone a lovely Wednesday and a happy September.

Paging Rhys00 - hey buddy, did you find that Tuesday's plan gave you enough to eat? What's the plan for Wednesday?

Hello Grigid and thanks for hosting.

B - Smoked salmon dressed with lemon juice and ground black pepper. Tea with semi skimmed milk to drink.

L - Chick pea and pistachio pot or Turkey fajitas.

D - Nasi goreng made with cauliflower rice.

Evening all and thanks to Grigid for hosting and that gorgeous picture of what is probably my favourite season. I've been absent from the DD for a few days having a lazy time feeling sorry for myself with bad arthritis. Had a BBQ on Sunday then been finishing up all the food I was forced to bring home from there. But the arthritis has improved slightly so it's time to get back to my RCRF (Reduced Carb, Reasonable Fats) plan a bit more seriously. Wednesday will be

B Weetabix/strawberrries/blueberries

L Egg/blue cheese / salad

D Fishcake / mushy peas

E Walking group + gentle Pilates and a bit of fence painting if the weather holds.

Enjoy the first of September, start of Autumn and please don't forget to say "white rabbits" 🐇🐇🐇 if you want any good luck this month😊.

Grigid profile image
GrigidModerator4 stone in reply to slipstick

We used to do Pinch and a Punch at school, probably just an excuse to beat each other up!Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad few days, fingers crossed the arthritis eases up some more for you.

Your meals sound yummy, especially lunch. Enjoy! 😊

Enjoy the trip out with the walking group. They say gentle mobilisation is good for arthritis (I know I feel worse when I don't move enough, but that making me move when it flares is very hard to do). Take care

Thanks for hosting Grigid. I totally get the needing to drink enough, it is something now that school returns today I need to focus on doing. I manage well enough during the holiday, not so well when teaching.

My mindful plan for today is...

B... crumpet, boiled egg, tomato

L... buffet lunch supplied at school

D... salmon and haddock with spiced stirfry veg. Lemon yoghurt and berries

A... 30min walk to relieve the fact most of the day will be spent sitting in a staff training day.

Grigid profile image
GrigidModerator4 stone in reply to ScoutyPat

You have some tasty and varied food planned.

Hope the first day back goes well and there’s something good on the buffet :)

ScoutyPat profile image
ScoutyPat in reply to Grigid

Umm... buffet lunch consisted of a Sainsbury's shop of sandwiches, crisps, fruit, fizzy drinks. So I had a 'be good to yourself ' egg and cress sandwich and a pack of watermelon slices, and impressively ignored the crisps and fizzy drinks. Wish I had just taken my own lunch

Tank_EG profile image

Morning ScoutyPat,

Loving your food plan, in fact I have crumpets down for my lunch 👍

And that walk should help relieve some of the ill effects of being stuck sitting down for your training day.

Hoping all goes well 😀

Skipped the after school walk as I clocked 54 active minutes and 5600steps in school. Hope you also enjoyed the crumpets.

Morning all. Yesterday started off well but I didn't take enough out for lunch and the trip to the park lasted much longer than I expected so I was really hungry by the time I got home and had 3 bread wraps before dinner. Then cookies and icecream later because I'd told myself I was going to be healthy from 1st Sep and realised it was still August. So all really sensible and grown up behaviour from me yesterday... 🤣

Back to working from home today after a 4 day weekend. It will be very busy but I'll have to find a balance as my son is at home. The plan is to get up and out for a walk by 8am to mimic a school day... whose idea was that?! 😆

Healthy eating:

B: smoothie

L: veggie wrap

D: something quick, maybe stir fry with cabbage

S: fruit

E: stretches, walk

Absolutely gorgeous picture! I love the colours of autumn and the crunch of leaves underfoot 💖

Ran 3 miles in 30 mins last night after work; today is my Joe Wicks dumbbells and body weight exercise session. Presenting my ethical considerations proposal for my initial research project to the ethics committee today and then, hopefully, I can get going 🤞

Today’s plan: I had poached eggs on wholegrain toast with roasted cherry tomatoes; packed lunch is guacamole and mango salad with black beans; and having wholewheat linguine with clams cooked in white wine, chilli & garlic and a good sprinkling of parsley for dinner, followed by Greek yoghurt with strawberries. Snacks: Brazil nuts, and griddled courgette slices with a few olives and fresh herbs.

Morning all and thanks to Grigid for hosting today's DD - loving the picture, nature's firework display 👍

Day 2 of moving my office upstairs into my son's old room, just got to move a massive printer and dismantle the desk.

Foodwise I want to keep the momentum going of losing the weight I have put on over the last couple of weeks as it is going better than I expected:

B: Cereal

L: Crumpets with peanut butter plus an apple & banana

D: Pork kebabs with spiced baked veg with a yoghurt for dessert

E: Walks with Tilly 🐶

Wishing everyone a great day 😀

M0rv3n profile image
M0rv3n7lbs in reply to Tank_EG

That looks a lovely menu Tank-EG, and so glad you are still winning the battle. Does portion size determine this or calories, or maybe its just experience of what works.... :)

Tank_EG profile image
Tank_EGMaintainer7 stone in reply to M0rv3n

Thanks M0rv3n 😀

I think now it is experience more than anything else but that was gained from early calorie control when I first started to lose weight. I do still check the calorie content on foods if I need to, especially if like the kebabs, they were bought from a supermarket 👍

Each meal is going to be around 500 kcal plus I'll be burning calories as I move my office around; to be honest Tilly 🐶 is a plodder so taking her for walks is not going to make much of a difference 🤣

Good morning fellow diarists and Grigid. Thank you for hosting us today with the beautiful autumn picture. I love the colour change of the woods near me, they look amazing in the morning sun 💖 I love all the different seasons for what they are but i have to admit i'm lot looking forward to the mud that will appear more regularly now lol.

Lovely meals you have planned today. I havent tried asparagus in an omelette but it does sound yummy 😊

Oh yesterday was fun but exhausting lol Happy to say i got everything fitted in and amassed 20,397 steps across the day!! I think i have found the limit for my new knee. No pain, no swelling and it's not stiff but it does feel a bit stuffed with cotton wool. I'm not upset or worried about it, it's actually a relief to know it has a stopping point 😊.

Today i'm going to try for a gentler day. Our walk will be back at the racecourse so i can take them all in one go and i might do a seated workout but other than that i aim to keep mobile in a rambling pottering way 😊. No wednesday night dog walk and pub as my friend is away at her parents this week.

My LCHF plan for today is:

B:Chis seed smoothie (blackberries and blueberries)

L: omelette with peppers, mushroom and cheese

T: freezer surprise - turns out its fish pie 😋 with roasted veg (cauliflower, tender stem broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, celery)

Exercise: 1x physio rehab, am dog walk, eddie puppy sitting and walk, shopping, pottering, chilling and possibly a seated workout.

Happy september and have a great day everyone xx

slipstick profile image
slipstickMaintainer2st 7lbs in reply to M0rv3n

Indeed. What's blander than plain mince and taters? Semolina perhaps? I really hope you find something palatable that you can eat. Starvation ain't good for a body.

Grigid profile image
GrigidModerator4 stone in reply to M0rv3n

Next WEEK???!! Good grief!

in reply to M0rv3n

You've been hardly eating anything for several days and drinking water. How much blander can you be? I think the general medics ideas of bland food is milk puddings, chicken and rice or fish and rice. If I, or hubby, or our dog gets a tummy upset then the chicken or fish with white rice is my go to bland food. The tummy upset then clears up within 24 - 48 hours. Any longer than that and it's a job for doctor or vet.

I think you have been fobbed off. If you are still unwell on Friday then it might be worth ringing the doctor again even if you have to say that it's got worse so you can get a proper appointment. If you still don't get any joy then you might need to think about contacting A&E and going there instead. One thing is for sure, it's been going on long enough to warrant being properly checked out. I wish you luck for an appointment.

Thank you for hosting and the poster looks absolutely beautiful!

I am back with you guys after a month and as if by magic the more i try the more hungry i am. Hows is that:)?! LOL... We say with my hubby that it will all regulate itself after a few days..

I’m trying to eat LCHF with an allowance of 100 grams of carb and 1800 cal.

B: smoothie: 50g of apple blended with greek yoghurt, a spoonful of blackcurrant jam and almonds.

L: scrambled eggs with lettuce, tomatoes, keto crackers

Snack: yoghurt/cheese

D: soya burger patty with a roast vegetable salad with beans, seeds and feta

E: Tidying up / yoga (doing 15mins every morning) / little walk / some gardening.

Have a nice day !😊

I am also an Autumn lover and like to pretend I am Winnie the Pooh kicking up the leaves 🍂

I am looking forward to finding new vegetarian ideas and also being accountable.

Today I need to get myself organised so the cupboard plan is:

* B: Muesli with berries from my garden ✅

* L: Peanut butter on toast

* D: Mushroom rice with peas and sweet corn

Snacks: satsuma and nectarine

Drinks: reduce my coffee intake and increase my water

Exercise:

* Dog walk (75 mins - more sniffing than walking) ✅

* Faster walk later to/from Hair Salon after work

I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is eating. My over half is not vegetarian but we do try and adapt menus - just need to be more disciplined and find quick and easy options although I do freeze portions.

Welcome. Your dinner looks lovely, something I would enjoy. I know about those sort of dog walks - my little chap hithers, thithers and dithers. Have a great day.

Why not have a Subway salad instead? :)

Grigid profile image

Hi Rhys00 At least subway put the calories on their menu so you can choose something healthier

in reply to Rhys00

Could you have one of the healthier subways and have your chicken supreme with extra veg instead of rice perhaps? I have to be careful with bread but it's just so convenient for a lunch. Good luck whatever you decide on. Enjoy your day.

Good afternoon Grigid, thank you for hosting. The photo is gorgeous. Unfortunately, where I am the leaves just turn brown and drop off!

I am a little late today but here goes:

B. Tiny bowl cereal with semi skimmed milk, 1 small slice low carb toast with pate.

L. Low carb savoury muffin with cream cheese.

D. Somethingwith mince. Either cottage pie with veg or tex mex taco with salad.

Good luck with your September plan Grigid.

Hello Drodie Like the sound of your low carb savoury muffin sounds interesting where did you get that idea from?

Good afternoon, late to the party today. My apologies for being AWOL yesterday, I was in work for 12 hours and a chippy tea beckoned, over carb allowance but I really couldn't be bothered cooking!!

Today is a better day, i have run 4.97mile (8k) a specific distance but it's the training for my 10k race in November and have had a proper Brunch of scrambled egg and cheese.

Tea: I think its likely to be gammon, new potatoes and freezer surprise veg.

I could be out tonight at a quiz or an open mic night, depends on my daughter. Either way, it'll only be a couple of drinks as it's a work night and I'm at 8.00am in the morning.

Exercise: 8k run ( completed) and dog walk, ( yet to be done😉)
