Hello 👋 just joined today. My weight today is 12 stone 8 lbs and I’m only 5 foot so I think I’m classed as morbidly obese. I want to start eating better and cut out eating rubbish, so some kind of short exercise and walk a bit more. I want to loose a lot of weight so I feel healthier and happier and wear clothes that fit rather than my pjs! Look forward to hearing from members soon. We can do this!

Hello Bluespaniel and welcome to the weight loss forum.I believe a lot of us have gained some extra weight in this last year.

Please have a good read of the Pinned Post “Welcome Newbies”. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

This is a very large community with lots going on. May I suggest you use the webpage as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around. Take your time and follow every thread so that you know exactly what’s going on.

Here’s the link for a “Tour” of the forum ,if you haven’t already taken it.

If you are following the NHS plan please check your BMI on the NHS site and obtain the correct amount of calories for you.

The Daily Diary and the Weekly Weigh ins are very good places to begin especially as you don't mention, which if any, plan you are going to follow.

I find the Daily Diary a very good place to share my plans and get inspiration from other members, too. Once the day’s food is written down I’m far more likely to stay on track.

The key to success is participation, we are all on the same journey.

If you can’t find something just shout, there’s usually someone around.

I hope to “see” you around, Good Luck.🍀😉

Welcome Bluespaniel 🤗

We're all different, and, what works for one person, might not work for another.

Many of us, including myself, started off by reducing our carb intake, such as bread, pasta, pastry, sugar etc which also helps to reduce cravings.

Good luck with your journey x

Thank you very much for your response. That’s a great idea and I shall try that and see how I go. Hope you have a good week.

If you do nothing else - start looking at the sugar/carb content of what you are eating - a sugar rush in your bloodstream gets shunted straight to fat stores and leaves you hungry and craving for more food. For so many years we have been told to go low fat "lite" food substitutes, but the sugar in them does us no favours.

Hello and welcome Bluespaniel,

maybe this list can help you with choosing exercises and improving your breathing.

(It's only collected and not checked from me yet. Everything on your own risk)

Make it fun, it will be done! Good luck on your journey

I'm calorie counting and 'exercise more, eat less/normal', my GP told me to lose weight and she also encouraged me to cut of all kind of dairy products to not trigger my asthma.

Hi Hasel17,

Thank you so much for the welcome and playlist. I enjoy mindfulness and I’d never even heard of breathing exercises for asthma. I will definitely give that a go.

Hope cutting out dairy has made a positive difference to your asthma and I hope you continue to do well on your weight loss journey.

I agree about making this journey fun and I shall try.

Keep in touch

Yes, my lungs are clearer and without so much mucus when I avoid dairy products and makes breathing and exercises easier.

I have a 'Pari boy' to inhale (usually only isotonic or hypertonic water) and also 2 tools 'power breath medic' and 'RC cornet' to improve the strength of my lungs and help me to breathe better, I think they are also described in videos at the list.

With my breathing exercises on a daily schedule I was able to fade out all my asthma meds. But I have to control my peak flow daily to add them back when my asthma becomes worse.

I'm suffering from Asthma for about 22 years and till now no one has every told me about the tools or that special exercises can strengthen the lungs and avoiding asthma attacks.

I was so often at several GP and lungs specialists and no one ever took me or my breathing issue and asthma serious or gave me some further advice, only meds and more meds which had several side effects.

When I took care of my Granny a few years ago, I had some experience in taking care of old and disabled people, knowledge about good nutrition and official paperwork, but her insurance send me to special care taker and dementia classes that I was able to improve my knowledge and help her better.

And when last year my asthma became worse and my GP was a little bit out of options, I challenged her and told her about the classes I went for Granny and asked if it might be possible that there are similar classes for Asthma that I can care better for me or other help. My GP and my insurance helped me and then I phoned from one physio therapist to the next and then sport clubs for rehabilitation and I collected every little information which I got.

I'm sad, that no one has ever told me about it before. My life and way could have been so much different and better with the experience and tools I have now.

I always try to share my knowledge. If I can make just one other life better or easier, all my illness and difficulties of the past years finally had a purpose.
