Been too ashamed to come back on here for the last few weeks. Regained almost a stone. Can't seem to break the cycle.

How do you think the forum can help you? I see you've posted with two different weigh in teams - Monday and Wednesday. Maybe decide which one you're going to belong to and make a regular commitment. Remember, they will value your support as much as you will theirs.

I don't think you've ever tried the daily diary (apologies if you have). Why not head over there now to see what plans other members are making? And then decide on your meals for tomorrow and post them on Sunday's diary.

Also, while you've been away we've started a daily chat thread. It's a good place to drop in for a general natter at any time.

Pick yourself up. You've had a good weight loss in the past. Have a look at what changes you might need to your diet and then get back involved with the forum.

All the best

Hello, I'm new here and was wondering where to find the daily chat thread? Sorry if it's obvious! Thanks 🙂

BridgeGirl
BridgeGirlAdministrator in reply to Nikon1972

Not at all, it isn't obvious. Welcome to the forum :)

You'll find everything you need by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... to Pinned Posts - a list of posts starting with Welcome newbies and going on to the day's weigh in, daily diary (where members post their meal plans), daily chat (which starts off with a topic and goes off in all direction) and several more activities and clubs.

This is a great place for information and support. Do some exploring, read and reply to posts, ask questions, encourage others - it will all pay off for you.

This gives you a tour of the forum, if you haven't already taken it healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

Finally, if you're using the app it doesn't reach all parts of the forum: you're best using the website :)

Glad to see you back. I'm struggling with my binge eating too but have kept coming on here every day which I think has helped. I'm sure we both can do it! :) Even with your gain, you've lost a huge amount of weight overall. I'm thinking today that every extra binge is a step further away from my 2 stone badge which I achieved in December.

Great you are back . It is hard to eat less when it is colder . Not just the food though as I find if I don't exercise every little treat I have really seems to pile on pounds . If I can't get out I exercise via You tube . Even 25 mins will burn off those few cals you may have eaten. Know it isn't precise advice but exercise motivates me to keep moving . If - like me after Xmas you still are snacking then try to eat just one of anything . It is horrible and hard but please keep posting.

Welcome IamwhatIam517 sorry to be so blunt but we cannot help you if you do not come and that with us. I am sure a lot of members have done the same. I know I have. This forum is here to help you get through these things. A daily chat has started up and enough though there is a topic for that day, it is there to chat about anything and everything you want to there is usually some one there. I can see your badge and you have lost weight. So you can do it again. You said you have put 1 st on but you have lost more. What you have to do is puta line under the past few weeks and start again even if it means starting at the beginning. The main thing is Not to give up. 😊😊😊

Ahh, there's my fellow musketeer. I've missed you. Dont ever feel ashamed to come here, i'm sure most if not all of us have had to deal with this on some scale. That is all in the past now. You are here again and we'll help you through it if we can and you'll let us. Come and join in on the Daily Diaries. Its a great resource and there's plenty of us to put our heads together to help you keep going.

As BridgeGirl has said there is now a new Daily Chat post. Go take a look at some of the past posts (in Pinned Posts) which may just lift your spirits and possibly give you motivational ideas. Today's is about the exercise we do but we've had all sorts of themes and you will be very welcome there. You can even chat about anything you want, it doesnt have to be about the days topic.

I hope we see you around here a lot more xx

I’ve also had some really heavy binge days since Christmas I’ve not been below my weight of 85kg since 24 December I find that when I’m a bit stressed or over tired I seem to over eat.My problem is that once I’ve had something sweet like chocolate it sets me off and I just can’t stop. I had a bad day last Saturday and another day on Tuesday. My weight can dramatically go up by 2 kg after these days. I’ve decided by the end of February I’m going to below my weight of 85 kg again, currently at 87.3 kg. When I look back at my weight app I was 109 kg this time 2019 and 104kg 2020. We all have times when things go wrong.don’t Threat just see it as a minor blip and move forward. I know I need to have a total sweet food ban for Feb and I will achieve my goal and increase my walking when weather permits it. You can do it.

Hey IamwhatIam517 nice to ‘see’ you back, please don’t ever feel like you should be ashamed. I will take the liberty of saying everyone understands how it goes! We’re all human and it’s never going to be perfect and plain sailing the whole time! And the world climate isn’t exactly making it easy for us.

I think you should give your self a big pat on the back for coming on and accepting where you are! And go easy on yourself! Okay you may have gained a stone but look at your badge you lost 4 so you have hard proof that you can do this!

Hang in there, and take small steps, so you might not get back in full swing straight away but you can maybe have a little bit more veg or an apple a day or whatever floats your boat!

I’ll stop rambling now but you’ve totally got this and you’ll never disappoint anyone, everyone’s cheering you on X

The most common thing I've heard around binge eating is that the urge is strongest when we've been restricting. When we've denied ourselves foods for a while it just makes us crave them even more.I'd really recommend watching Kiana Docherty's videos on YouTube as she explains it really well, but basically you could try intentionally not dieting for a bit. I know it's really scary to get out of the mindset, and you might gain a little bit more weight initially, but relaxing your mind around food might reduce the urges to binge, and allow yourself to eat in moderation, which should stop the binge-restrict cycle.

Just a thought, good luck. Whatever happens you are NOT a failure, and it's only diet culture that makes you think you are. Losing weight is so so hard, and I'm sure you've come a long way in improving your health. Just remember you're worth more than your size.

Morning IamwhatIam - you made a brilliant step in posting how you have been feeling and the replies affirm what a great place this is!!

I felt just like you for 4 weeks. Pre-Christmas I reached my 2st badge and was so proud and felt great. Post-Christmas, with the wretched weather, short days, cold house, Covid situation, I turned (as I often do) to food for comfort................... couldn't get out of this cycle and gained 12lbs. I, too, felt ashamed and was embarrassed about posting my gains. But I did, support has been fantastic and I reined in my comfort eating and took one day at a time.

I decided to eat substantial meals and to have a slice of cake when my mid-afternoon hunger pangs strike and have found I haven't binged or over-eaten. In only a few days I felt more in control. You, too, will get your mojo back.

I have joined Lytham's Spring Challenge where my goal is to reach my pre-Christmas weight. By then, the days will be longer, it will be warmer and I know I will be able to lose the final half stone to reach my ultimate goal.

We are all different and cope in our own ways but you and I know that we can do this - look at our track record!! So, well done on being bold enough to tell us how things are, you were braver than me - I tried to sneak my weekly weight post at the end of the day so fewer people would see it!!

So I hope you have been greatly encouraged by everyone's replies and suggestions. You will get your mojo back. This really is a great forum to be on - my very best wishes to you. 😊😊

I’ve had to reply to you as this was me for most of my adult life on and off diets and binge eating and putting all my good work back on and more sometimes 😩Diets just do not work once at a “Goal “ weight you feel fabulous and slowly letting old eating habits creep back in ...that I’m afraid is the pattern of many dieters.

My life has totally changed now I will never ever diet again the reason being I’ve discovered Time Restriction eating .

It’s not what you eat it’s when you eat it being the main issue as every time we eat our insulin spikes ( I won’t go into the science behind all of this ...this is what you can research if your interested in this lifestyle)

But I would really love you to do is to check out Gin Stephens ( American lady the mirror image of many failed diets of many people like herself ) her book Delay don’t Deny. Is her first book which I first got my hands on and she’s now has a new one out Fast Feast Repeat which goes more in-depth to how this way of lifestyle is just healing in itself it’s life changing.

One last thing I’ll mention is It’s not your fault you’ve failed and you will find out why reading this book we’ve all been brainwashed into thinking calories in calories out works ...it doesn’t Please read this book x

Best Wishes

Diane

Hi Diane,

I have Gins books, and have recently tried getting down to a 4 hr eating window...it works...but, I have found that, you have to be in the right place mentally. It's for me, in the future, when the weather is warmer, and, I have less stress etc...

....I agree, that it works, and, is well worth a read.

Hi IamwhatIam517, I have just seen your post and had to reply. Well done for coming back to the forum. I have been stuck in a ‘binge-purge-starve-repeat’ cycle for the last 10wks with the ‘excuse’ being Christmas. I am about the same weight now that I was in November, so another 10wks of my life wasted. I recognise and empathise with you and the others who replied to your post. I put 1/2 stone on in that time. For me I am trying to stick to LCHF, my craving for sweet food is reducing, although I have still been overeating but sticking to LCHF. But the people on here have been so supportive and it’s made me feel much better. I’m still struggling to avoid the binges and ‘treats’ but it’s getting better. Hi IamwhatIam,

Thank you for being brave, and, posting.

I too have been considering posting this weekend...a similar thread.

I still might...then I can write a shorter, one liner, for my weigh-in on Monday, for the Mass Movers, and, for the Spring Challenge.

Why don't you take the mental stress off, by deciding to 'maintain' your current weight, until you're feeling mentally stronger, when you can start to work on losing again?

I have decided to do this, and, instantly, I feel more relaxed about it all.

Also, another suggestion, perhaps.....

......Ask Admin to change your badge...get rid of the numbers......I'm glad that I did that...

......after all, I will always have to watch my diet, as in, the food that I eat...now that I'm no longer 20 something...so, I will always be 'working at it' and, I will also always be, a 'work in progress'

It's a learning curve...

And,

You've got this! xx
