Hey fellow weight losers, i'm on the southbeach diet and have some questions about it. Can anyone direct me to a forum or group for south beach dieters?

Hi Lay7777 and welcome to the weight loss forum..

I'm afraid that I have never heard of "The southbeach diet"! We don't promote any particular "Diet" as such. We recommend a sustainable, life style change which varies according to our particular lives. We try to offer peer to peer support with weight loss which ever "method" is chosen.

May I suggest that you follow all the links you've been sent in your welcome package It's best to use the website as opposed to the app.

Here's the link to the pinned posts where you should find everything you need to know.

I hope you join the Daily Diary, there's lots of delicious ideas there. When you have decided your “weigh in day”, join one of the weekly weigh ins.

If you are counting calories please run your data through the NHS site, to calculate your BMI and with that obtain your calorie allowance.

If you have any queries just shout. There's always someone here.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.🍀

Hi, I'd never heard of the South Beach diet but, now I've looked it up, I see it's low carb with low fat. There are plenty of members here who recognise the need to reduce carbs. Mostly, they are relaxed about healthy fats and not keen on low fat products.

Do join in with the Daily Diary, following the link Tabby has given you. Meanwhile, you may find this an interesting read fatismyfriend.co.uk/

As I understand it, the South Beach diet doesn't restrict fruit or alcohol. If any diet is going to have significant results you've got to restrict all sources of carbohydrate including most fruit, and drinks like fruit juices and alcohol.

Just my twopenn’orth but if you are restricting carbs then eating some healthy fats (nuts, avocados, olive oil, full fat yoghurt, etc) will help lose, and keep off weight in the longer term. The healthy fats help food taste better and is better for the body, enabling lower, better for you carbs/higher good fats to become a way of eating for life (the only way to keep weight off) as opposed to a diet that you come off.

If you are allowed alcohol as part of your new healthy way of eating depending on what you drink and how much you drink will effect how successfully you can reduce your weight.Any colories in the booze will go straight on as weight because your body does not know what to do with it.

More significantly alcohol is poison a toxin which your liver has to deal with first. I think it takes an hour for every ounce of alcohol. It is only then it can start working on processing and converting food.

I love a drink but have had to really cut down in order to reduce my weight especially if I drink beer and wine. If I drink the weight for me either remains the same or too much and it starts going up.

The thing is you'll know if the south beach works by how much weight you lose and whether you can keep it off. It it does great if not either start tweaking it or try something else. Good luck 👍
