Long term FASTING question

Newbie here! Thanks for the add ;-)

I've been on IF for a year very successfully. Starting my for multi-day fast and hoping someone can help.

Planning on 2-4 days and playing my first fast by ear: I'm 36 hours in and blood ketones at .7 I drank 12oz of run off (broth only) from brisket I did in the InstantPot (grass fed brisket, salt, pepper, butter). I'm guessing this is keeping me from ketones/autophagy and true benefits of a water fast?

Hi and welcome, shawner :)

Whilst I have done IF for years, I have no personal experience of longer fasts, so I'm going to tag our resident 'expert' Subtle_badger and give you the link to the Fasting and Furious forum healthunlocked.com/fasting-...

I'm not sure whether weight loss is one of your aims, so just in case, all of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

I'm not really an expert. I've never even measured my ketones. I don't know what 0.7 means. Well, now I do. Google says it means light nutritional ketosis.

I wouldn't expect broth to kick you out of ketosis, it's not going to be much protein, and some fat. While your body could be making glucose out of that protein, it could also make it out of the amino acids that are constantly being recycled by your body. Topping up with some protein would not force your body to make it into glucose. Fat wouldn't do it either.

It does (according to what I have read) stop autophagy, as well as stopping your digestive system's rest (another advantage of fasting). But then keeping the digestive system ticking over might be a good thing, and reduce gastric distress when refeeding.

Thanks for the info. I'm very close to my goal weight, so that's not my concern. I'm really interested in autophagy and those benefits. I'm 45 hours in and plan on 96 if all goes well. I'll just do black coffee, green tea and water for the duration. I believe ACV is also good to go. I'll look into that further. Thanks again!!! It's good to have folks to lean on ;-)
