Motivation, tips, encouragement for weight loss!

NotSoYoYoDieter92 profile image

I've been trying to lose weight for so many years now, and I always end up heavier than ever. I've tried weight watchers, slimming world, fad diets, just eating less, cutting out unhealthy foods etc and I always end up at square one.

With this lockdown, and having now been off work nearly 3 months, I thought this would be the perfect time to finally get in to shape as I had all the time in the world. But no. I've barely lost 3lbs. There was three week period where I was exercising every day, and eating healthy meals from Joe Wicks' books, drinking at least 2l of water a day, eating way more fruit than normal... but it did absolutely nothing.

I'm writing this now as I've just about calmed down from a mini breakdown from it all. I find if things aren't going in the direction I want them to, I very easily go back to my bad ways of eating. I'm a food addict as it is, and I live alone so there's no accountability.

I know that I want to lose weight, and I've written so many lists of reasons to lose weight, but none of that seems to make any difference.

I feel I'm going to be this way forever and I'm so unhappy. Please, if anyone has any tips or anything, I'd be so grateful.

Hello NotSoYoYoDieter92 and welcome to this Forum! Bless you as soon as I saw you refer to Joe Wicks I had a little smile. I also bought one if his books and used his recipes last year and yes they are delicious but his amounts are geared for those following quite a rigorous exercise programme I found and I was consuming more calories than I was burning up so I hit no weight loss fir a while till I adjusted what I was eating. You have come to the right place here for support and ideas so breathe and take some time to check out the Forum.

People adopt a mix of approaches on this site which you will see as you explore this site. We strongly recommend new members make use of one of our Weekly Weigh In pages and the Daily Diary posts. You will find these via this link following which takes you to our Pinned Posts section. There you will find a Welcome message, general advice (eg: internet safety)and guide to our site plus links to a range of groups which we hope will interest you as well as the key Weigh In and Daily Diary pages.....

....it can take a bit to learn how to find one's way around so please read the material carefully and also note, don't use the HU App, it is much easier to use the website.

As explained above, we recommend that members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback. They are found under Pinned Posts (go back to the link I gave you above)

A special feature of our Forum is the degree of support between members which you will experience (and add to yourself !) as you join in and chat with others.

All the best on your weight-loss journey ! 😊

Hi,

It can be challenging to make that change and I can see you want to make it.

It would be good to understand your stats, what you are trying to achieve and what you've been doing and eating.

Understanding that weight loss is a journey is key. It will not happen overnight and you have to accept small changes. Even when changes are big at the start, they will get smaller.

So, decide the weight you ideally want to be. Be realistic.

Decide interim steps that will get you there.

Decide what changes you will make to hit those interim steps. You can start off with food or exercise or a bit of both if you feel you can manage and sustain it.

Avoid any get thin quick schemes.

Use the forum to share meal ideas, steal meal ideas, share your weight journey and for giving and receiving moral support.
