I'm an Unsuccessful Slimmer

I've tried many diets over the years but after about a month I become bored and lose interest.

I no longer have the energy or flexibility to do the things I once enjoyed, such as DIY, decorating, gardening. I don't exercise and I've become too lethargic to try. The 16/8 diet appeals. I feel that this would fit in with my eating pattern.

With HealthUnlocked/'Weight Loss NHS' I feel confident that they are genuinely trying to help, so, I would like to try once more to lose weight and get fit.

Hello Mo-D and welcome to this Forum! It's a positive move you've made to decide you want a healthier life for yourself, to do things that you enjoy again and that you've come on here to start shows you mean business.... a move away from lethargy and boredom is great!

If we don't stir ourselves sadly we do lose flexibility and I think you are right that it's often more likely that we get bored and suffer low mood too so it's clearly time for a change. Here on the Forum we try to focus on support and encouraging each other in learning and progressing in our weight loss journeys.

We recommend that all members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback. These 2 parts of the Forum in particular will help you get to know others on here and share ideas .The Daily Diary and Weigh In posts open at 9pm UK time and are open till 9pm the following day to assist members from a range of countries join in. I'll add a couple of links for you...

There are also posts about fitness, happiness, alcohol, book clubs and recipes on here to name just a few!

You will have been sent a Welcome post on registration which gave you advice and guidance on how to navigate this site.

Here's a reminder link to that Site Guide.

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!

A key feature of our Forum we hope you will experience is the degree of support between members which you will add to yourself as you join in and chat with others.

All the best on your weight-loss journey ! 😊

Hi Mo-D and welcome :)

Historically 'diets' are punitive and mostly tasteless which is why you're not alone when it comes to getting bored and losing interest.

Why not pop in to today's Daily Diary and read through everyone's menu for today. The food is amazing and everyone is always pinching each others' ideas.

For what it's worth, before I came here I'd resigned myself to being overweight for the rest of my life but being active on this forum has helped changed around my life (sounds dramatic but true :) ).

Best of luck! :)

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.

I intend to start this diet on Monday 3rd February 2020, which will allow me to plan my meals and get into the right frame of mind.

Good for you.

One way to help yourself prepare is to think about losing the word 'diet' and substitute it with 'a healthy way of living' :)

Hi, Mo-D , welcome.

16/8nis a good way to start Intermittent Fasting.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Thank you so much for taking the time to guide me in the right direction.

I've had a quick glance at the Fasting and it looks really good. I have tried the Atkins method in the past which followed the low carb route.

It is really helpful having support from fellow fasters.

xx
