I’m a new girl here and know I need to lose weight but can’t get motivated.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I feel the same!! Honestly motivation is probably the biggest issue for me too. and Consistency. I've managed to put on 3 stone in 3 years but now it's time for me to knuckle down and be serious about this. Let's do it together!! There is great support here :)

I struggle with motivation all the time. I began to do things (where practical) as soon as I thought of them rather than saying I need to do them and then putting them off. The more I do that, the easier it is to motivate myself to do the larger things. I also like to make a daily schedule of the big things to help me get myself going.

Maybe make yourself a list of reasons why you want to lose weight 😊

It's different things for different people, but health, fitness and happiness feature for a lot of us I'm sure ☺️ looking better in your (smaller) clothes is a bonus 😊

Setting small goals is a great incentive, with a non-food reward when you reach a goal

Good plan Joanney69! I think I have a plan in my head anyway and, as you say, health, fitness and feeling better in my clothes are big incentives. All the time I’m not socialising it’s easy, but I find it difficult to be sensible when with friends and family! 😔

I’m going to give it my best shot though even though we’ve got several social engagements in the next week and then we’re on holiday ... help! 🥴

As long as the majority of your food choices are 'good', it's surprising how you can balance out the 'naughty' things - finding a balance & something that is sustainable is the trick, so it becomes a way of life rather than a diet - diets just don't work ☺️

I think harness that excitement and ride it! Once I stopped thinking about it as a restrictive, sad diet and started thinking about all the stuff I could learn and gain and enjoy, it has made the process easier and the motivation comes with because you start to enjoy what you’re doing and creating your new lifestyle. Just make sure you do something sustainable. Don’t overly restrict or it’ll pile back on and you’ll be more likely to binge as you feel like some foods are “naughty” or you can’t have them. I incorporate everything I like into my calorie allowance so I don’t feel like anything is off the table.

Hi and welcome coming here a good start. When I first started I did the 12 week NHS plan through a chemist. My thinking was if someone else was weighing me would stick to it more. At home you can put it off ( or move scales lol) especially as it was 15 miles away so thought if I'm using that petrol better work at it. Try that you might have a chemist nearer doing it. You will get loads of support here to so good luck

Thanks for the encouragement, I’m going to try and do the weigh in at home and see how I get on ... for now, anyway. 😬

I did 6 months ago. I jpined S.W. for 6 months and I got a lot of encouragement, also on this site there is a lot of support. You do it for your health so that is the motivation, keep up the good work, it is a good feeling when you maybe get the next size in clothes.

Thanks for that, very encouraging. Can’t wait to get out there buying new clothes in a smaller size!
