Time to face facts

Tried on a couple of dresses yesterday in a changing room with very unforgiving mirrors. Oh my word !! When did that happen? I’ve turned into a turnip on legs!

Of course this isn’t a complete surprise. My dress size has crept up over the years and I can’t say, Hand-on-heart, I eat a brilliantly healthy diet.

So today I’m going to make a start and see if I can go for 3 days eating only 1500 calories. And get off at the bus stop that means I have to walk further.A small change but I’ll try. I have the will power of my cat when face with a live mouse; instinct kicks in and I’ll forget all my good intentions 😆

My BMI is 24.7, on the very cusp of ok. My waist measurement is a good 6” over what it should be for my height. And recent blood test said I have high cholesterol.

Hi VivM,

I'm sure you don't look like that ,I always see myself in a mirror as Fred Flintstone or the fat controller from Thomas the Tank series.

Somebody from admin will reply to you with some more information soon.

Good luck ,great support on this forum.

Gary

Well, at least congratulate yourself for deciding to take the plunge! Because you're only moderately overweight (I'm guessing from your BMI that you just have a bit of a "spare tyre") you should find this pretty easy.

Only thing I'd say is, if you know that you're eating rather unhealthy meals, don't try to do this by just eating smaller unhealthy meals. The only possible outcome is that (a) you'll feel miserable and (b) your body will recalibrate itself to run on less food. It will not affect your bodyfat in the slightest - at least not in the long term. Even if you temporarily lose a couple of pounds, at some point you'll go back to "eating normally" and it'll all pile back on again.

Focus on putting proper food onto your plate first and foremost - and bear in mind that most "healthy eating" advice is pure superstition and hearsay with no basis in physiology, science, or real-life experience. There's also an incredible amount of unhealthy, fattening trash on the supermarket shelves being marketed as healthy and/or conducive to weight loss. In other words, step back a little bit, take a breath, do a bit of research, and then decide what you're going to change.

Oh .. don't fret over your cholesterol. According to the powers-that-be, everyone has high cholesterol and should therefore be taking statins. What's going on there is anybody's guess, but the bottom line is that total blood cholesterol does not correlate with, or predict, any disease (the only reliable observation to date is that older people with low cholesterol are at a much higher risk of stroke). Get some nice, quality food on your plate, do less slouching in front of the TV, and do some exercise, and you'll have done everything that needs to be done.
