Stopped losing weight just exercising more

Hi, I've lost 5 stone in the last year but for the last 5 weeks I've not lost any weight. I walk approx 8 miles at the weekend and go to the gym twice a week (1.5 hrs a time) and eat 1235 calories a day. Plus I've recently been diagnosed with caeliac disease (no symptoms) but as yet not had a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis, could this be a possible reason why no weight loss?

Hello and welcome Scorpion_1 and very well done on losing 5 stone, that’s a fabulous weight loss 👏👏👏

In case you haven’t already seen it please read the Welcome Newbies Post here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

There are many reasons for a weight loss plateau, but most evidence suggests that you just stick with it. Your calories seem a litttle low, maybe check on the NHS BMI checker and be guided by the suggested calorie range there. Also, if you are exercising you could be burning fat and laying down muscle, therefore losing inches but not pounds. Finally, food type can have an affect, if younpost your menus on the Daily Diary maybe someone can suggest a few tweaks 😊

My experience with coeliac disease is that you are more inclined to lose unexpected weight due to the gut not absorbing your food properly. There is a specific and important diet for coeliac's which mainly involves excluding Gluten from the diet, I hope you have been given the right advice for this as coeliac can be a very debilitating disease, my father died of it because it took them too long to diagnose. To be honest I find it difficult to understand how they can have given you a diagnosis of CD if you have had no symptoms, but take care to get the right diagnosis and treatment. Treated properly with the right diet you can live with it perfectly well.

Thanks for your replies, I'll recheck my calories though that was on the nhs bmi checker, but have increased my exercise by going to the gym. Re coeliac disease, it was a blood test at my annual health check that said it was coeliac disease but need it confirming with a biopsy. Reading up on it I'm finding it really hard to believe that I am, so time will tell.
