Short answer No. if you re on the correct dosage of thyroxin, then you’re in the same boat as everyone else. You have to watch what you put in your mouth! I say this as someone who has had an underactive thyroid for 35 years. My weight has gone up when I have eaten too much. Simples!

Hi Hannah. I have been able to lose weight, but think it can be a bit slower at times. I also think that I find gaining weight very easy! Good luck

you should always take your thyroxin it should be taken at least half an hour before food .

I have had an underactive thyroid for a number of years if you are stabilized on your medication then you should be able to lose weight . I have only put on weight when I was first diagnosed and when my thyroxine needed to be adjusted .

If you have not had your thyroid bloods done it may be worth having them checked these should be done yearly if you are stable if at all worried consult your GP.

Well yes if you don't take your thyroxin that will probably be the outcome. If you take your thyroxine as prescribed you should have teh same weight loss/gain as anyone else though.

I have thyroid problems but it's currently well controlled by thyroxine and I've been losing weight steadily since May. It can definitely be done. Good luck x
