A million different directions

I feel like I’m being pulled in a million different directions and feel lost.

I feel like my weight loss has stagnated this past year and I keep hovering around the 20st mark. I’m already in with the professor of human nutrition and he’s keen to avoid bariatric surgery as long as possible.

I’ve been diagnosed a couple of months back with IIH (Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) which means the fluid around my brain is too high so frequent headaches are a regular occurrence.

I’ve just been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome so waiting in a referral to endocrine for that. My husband tries to support but he is battling M.E. so I usually care for him and as the only source of income it’s a struggle.

Sorry for the moan but I feel like I’ve nowhere to turn and would appreciate anyone’s input 💖

Hi, I’m sorry to read that you are having a difficult time. Weight loss is difficult, getting started is hard but keeping going is tricky too. Try to remember why you went to lose weight and focus on that. Use non food rewards to praise yourself for small goals. I’m glad your doctor isn’t pushing you down the surgery route as I really don’t see that as an easy option for people and it has to be best to avoid hospitals where possible. Use the forum regularly to help you. Good luck 🤞

Illnesses and their medication and stress make losing weight hard but I think the main priority is to focus on healthy food choices while trying to lose weight. If you eat nutritious food not empty calories you will be less stressed and have one less life battle. Its good then that you are seeing a nutrition specialist.

There is a time to lose weight and a time to focus on optimal health and nutrition and with everything going on in your life mrsdavis86 take it one step at a time.

I also can’t stress enough how helpful I find the forum, coming on here, reading and chatting to others really does keep me focussed and on track 😊

Sorry to hear you are struggling - my best advice to help with the weight loss is to go back to basics - Re-do your NHS BMI calculator to get your calorie range and work within that and hopefully the weight will start to move again

I'm really sorry to hear about everything you're going through and can't begin to imagine what you're having to deal with but do wish you all the best.

What did you do when you did so well to lose the weight you've lost?

Can you think about starting again but at the same time make more use of this forum. Join in daily and you may be surprised as to how much more strength you have than you think.

Morning Tiggerr. I used to log everything I ate on my Fitbit and go the gym which helped with the weight loss last year. Had to give the gym up though to care for my husband (plus finances).

I’ll need to get back into logging the food in the Fitbit to give me guidelines and find an at home exercise I can do that won’t kick off the headaches as much but still be effective

There are lots of excellent at home walking videos on You Tube for free. Lesley Sansome and Lucy Wyndham-Read are both excellent. (I like Lucy the best as she is more user friendly 🙂). Give it a go and good luck. You have done so well to have lost so much weight already and you should give yourself credit for this. Keep posting as a friendly ear can help when you are at your wit’s end. Sometimes just putting things down on paper/computer may help put things into perspective. Good luck and best wishes EJ

I had to go back to 'my' basics recently. That is, logging cals plus saying no and meaning no... I'd just got way too casual about it.

Don't fret too much about the exercise, it can help but it's not a show stopper. Although NannyEJ's come up with a great idea. I hope that doesn't bring on your headaches.

Have you ever used the Daily Diary which can become pretty addictive and definitely very helpful.
