Is anyone currently on the 5:2 diet?

I found some old posts about this, but nothing really recent - is anyone doing this at the moment? Thinking of starting? Have any tales of success? I'm thinking I might give it a go because I seem to be plateauing at the moment.

Hi Pseud0nym

Sorry I'm unable to comment on the 5:2 diet as I've never tried it but some of the other members may be able to advise you on it. :)

Thanks, fingers crossed. :) Some of the older posts I've read on it are interesting.

You will probably get more replies tonight as Thursday afternoons are usaually quiet. Try asking in the Daily Diary post in Events . :)

Ah okay, I'll try that if I don't hear much. Do I just post the same thing again or link to this post somehow?

Just write at the bottom of their post and ask them. :)

Hello

I have just finished DrMichael Moseley 8 week blood sugar diet and lost11 kg and got my blood sugar level back to normal. Now following his Fast diet ( 5:2) and have no reason to believe it won't work, my first 'Fast day' today no problem Just skipped breakfast and lunch and 500 cals for supper.

Do you have the books? I strongly recommend them and they are not expensive on Amazon

The key is to stick to it!

Best wishes

Thanks. 🤓 And well done!

It seems fairly straight forward from what I've seen online, is there much more information in the books?

I can't say for sure but I think so

I tried it briefly and when I did it I did lose weight but I couldn't sustain the lifestyle and gained it back straight away (mostly because I went back to eating badly I guess). Personally I couldn't do it because I had terrible headaches all day every fasting day and couldn't sleep through the hunger and was a horrible cow two days a week lol. It does seem to work for people though :) but it's a good idea to have a whole bunch of "500 calorie" meals in mind I think so that you know exactly what you'll be able to eat on those days, and to read up on the research.

Goodluck!

I stuck to it for two years and really liked the results. After reaching my desired weight goal, I was able to maintain it and still eat out occasionally without putting weight back on. However, I never found it easy to do. I went on to it because a colleague asked me if I would be her buddy in doing it. She gave up within a month but I stuck to it for two years. Other colleagues who have done it/still do it say that they find that it gets easier to do with time. Unfortunately, I never found that and I hated going to bed feeling hungry having struggled through the day. I noticed that I would feel very down by the end of the day and it was difficult to achieve stuff in the evenings because I was so hungry. I usually went for a swim to try to keep my mind of feeling hungry. If I had a day when I was away travelling for work or needing to drive my car I would switch the fasting day so that I would not be fasting on those days. I realised that I would often over-eat on the other five days. I may go back to it at some stage but not when I am feeling under a lot of stress at work or in other aspects of my life.

Ah, that's interesting, thank you. I've only been doing it for a couple of weeks so far and I'm not finding it too hard, I don't eat much in the day anyway. It's how to combat the boredom eating I tend to do in the evening that I think will be my major challenge, and that is more related to looking for something to do than genuine hunger. It's good to know that it worked for you though and you did see benefits.
