Help! Newbie

Hi I'm new here and would like to introduce myself. I am 51 and had a wake up call yesterday where I sat and cried.i was told I'm obese and at risk of all sorts of diseases. I need to be healthy for my family or the way I'm going I will not see them married and have children.

I do a little bit of excerise by walking half and hour to and half an hour from work Monday to Friday and 30 to and from town at the weekend. I have previously tried weight watchers and slimming world but being as I'm the only wage earner I don't really want to pay five pound to just get weighed very week, when that could be spent on food. (Healthy food I add!)

I have bought a smaller plate so my portion size is going to be good and stocked up on sugar free squashes as I don't like the taste of water. I just need help and support on how and where to begin. Thanks for listening x

Hi, have a look at the 'welcome newbies' post in the pinned post section on the right hand side of your screen, there's lots of useful information in that to get you started. Also download the NHS 12 week plan, again lots of hints and tips on that. Eating off a smaller plate is a very good idea, but I would advise you also weigh your portions doing things by sight alone can be very deceiving! There's a Monday weigh in that is great, very non judgemental, so why not join in that too? I never used to like tap water but I bought a filter jug and drink loads of it now, it's so refreshing and good for digestion and aiding weight loss. Come on here regularly for help, advice and motivation. Good luck!

Hi Kazzysb,

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your weight loss and better health. x

The 12 week plan Is brilliant for helping to retrain eating habits.

I really like the myfitnesspal ap for logging calories as it does so much of the work for you.

Once you have got a few weeks under your belt I bet you will start to enjoy this journey.

It feels wonderful to get rid of the excess baggage and to feel fitter again. You are worth it!!!!
