So... Is that a thing? Have any of you experienced it? How did you overcome it?

I'm 25kgs down from my biggest, and about 9-10kgs away from my goal... And not much progress over the past week or so. Weird...

It's to do with your body getting used to the level of energy you're giving it. The only way to lose weight is to lower your calorie intake sadly.

This series explained about plateauing bbc.co.uk/guides/z2csfg8

I took up strength exercises - that was what my whole 'Strength September' was all about. I found a few exercises on the NHS livewell pages and tried to do squats every day, which I didn't exactly succeed at doing, but what I did do made the difference. There's something about strength and/or resistance exercises that's meant to really help kickstart your metabolism, or at least it seemed to do so for me.

That's so amazing to have lost 25kgs by the way. Those last few kgs will be gone soon I'm sure too :)

Ruth I agree with you as I did not loose weight until I walked every where which proves the point exercise and eating healthy, small portions shifts the weight.

Have a look at adaptive thermogenesis.

You can't keep lowering your calorie intake! But you could try varying your calorie intake over a few days, or try intermittent fasting. You could also try upping protein and lowering carbs. Exercises like HIIT may help too, along with the resistance training Ruth mentioned.

Well done on your weight loss so far, 25 kilos is a real achievement.

Yes it has happened to me too Jellymummy, from what I can remember I think the program tells you how to deal with it. I wonder if it is a psychological barrier? The thing is, you probably have to eat less calories as kk679 says, or increase you activity level. my opinion is that by have lost weight, you must feel fitter, more energetic so perhaps you can move around more. This was How I solved this issue.

What is the best way to lose weight

Google Calorie cycling. It worked for me and with a bit of forethought also can help socially too.

Basically my daily calorie allowance was 1400. But I would look at the week ahead and if I was eating out one night and going to a friends another , I would save calories for those days. So as an example

Mon 1400, Tues 1200, weds 1600, Thurs 1100, Fri 1200, Sat 1900, Sun 1400.

(A few proviso's :-Don't ever go below 1000, don't eat more than your daily allowance x7 in a week.and don't have a low intake day the days you do most exercise)

This worked for me. I lost weight every week and I enjoyed being able to relax a bit with the diet when out socially with no guilt or feelings that I had cheated.

The theory is your body doesn't hold onto fat as it thinks it knows what fuel it will get each day and adjusts.

Well done on your journey so far and I am sure you will get past the plateau soon

It happens quite often with any weight loss plan. I may be that you need to just change what you are eating around a bit. Or maybe drop your calories a bit lower, the smaller the body the less fuel it needs to keep going.

Another alternative would be to increase/change your exercise.

Main thing is not to panic, you have done really well so far and it will shift

What you have achieved is amazing you should be really proud of that. I am currently in a similar situation to you, so frustrating! I hope you can overcome it. Good luck, and let me know if you find a solution xx

I would recommend intermittent fasting. It works. A was 9st 2lb for yonks but the intermittent fasting has now got me down to 8st 3lb. Check out the 5:2 website.

Wow thanks for all the replies! I've begun the year fasting regularly for faith reasons so maybe that will do smth for my weight too, though I'mnot counting on it too much.

I had cut down on carbs but these past 2 weeks they've weasled their way back onto the table (ski season! Everything pasta and potato based!) so i'll try create the calorie deficit by cutting them down again.

And thanks for reminding me how far i've come... It is quite incredible when I stop to think about it!

Have a fabulous day everybody!

Hi. Wow what a fantastic achievement! It is so disappointing to be sticking to your diet and not budging. I have the same problem after losing 10.5k of 30k. For me I have reached a weight that I have not been lower than for about 3 years and feel as though the remaining weight moved in so long ago that it's claiming squatters rights to remain!! I am going to increase my activity and stay eating 1400 calories per day. I can let you know if it works. Don't give up you are doing fab.
