Just starting my journey....

Hi everyone,I joined here on 20 April this year and all I've done so far is read peoples posts. Today I weigh 16st 11lb and I am 5ft 2in,female,38yrs old. I was 17st 2lb in April so haven't really tried all year! I will be 40 in February 2016 so I want to lose weight gradually and healthily until then so I like me,it isn't about anyone else. I've been a single parent for 9yrs and now my girls are older and a little less dependant (20+13 now) I feel its my time to put some TLC into me!! Any tips, advice and support will be greatly appreciated :-)

Hi,

It is good you are doing it for you. That was the attitude I had as well.

nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/...

I followed the 12 week plan to start me off and there is plenty of advice on the site as well. My personal tips are to plan all your meals and shop for those meals (I used a wee book of calorie information & a spreadsheet to log calories but others use apps.). Don't get too hungry, use smaller plates and I also buy small loaves of bread so the slices are smaller

If I eat out I just eat what I want, but I have found I eat less anyway.

I always walked a lot but I started c25k which is brilliant and will also give you more 'you time' if you go out running.

So good luck with your journey and if you take your time the weight should stay off.

Thanks so much for your advice,I am a non exerciser at present so plan to start gently using the Wii fut and walking and aiming for the recommended 150mins per week as my very first stepping stone because omins to 150mins would be a huge improvent to me........my end stepping stone I would love it to be "I am a runner" here's hoping and aiming :-)

Well done, I am older than you but reached your place last January. I have managed to lose 19kgs and am very happy with that. I joined a fitness centre in March and seriously 'upped' the amount of exercise I do. It helped me to record all that I eat for the first few months. I used a website called "food focus" and that really help me keep a disciplined record. I still have another stone or 5 to 6 Kgs to lose and it will be the New Year before I achieve that. Don't give up keep going even after bad days. Take it slow, you want the weight to stay off and you need to retrain your body into knowing how many calories you need for your body and your lifestyle. I really hope you get going and that the 40 year old you in 2016 will be proud of her achievement!

I am the same carol, have every intention of starting and succeeding then get side tracked so easily,it's time for me to admit the only one holding me back is me! Stay in touch and we will do this together........I don't even care if I only lose 0.5lb a week asking as I average a minimum of 5lb loss a month.......I've always wanted big losses before which are obviously unachievable long term so my attitude now is slow and steady wins the race......I didn't put this on overnight and I have a lifetime of bad habits to slowly change. Good luck carol :D

you know your right I think what's worrying is I didn't see this weight creeping on and then bang I looked in the mirror and this person staring back wasn't the person I knew as I was always stick thin. Its my birthday tomorrow and I'm 56 the thought terrifies me getting older and looking middle aged and tubby. Thank you for your support really thank you. I have 2.5 stone to lose and If by next Wednesday I have lost a pound Ill be happy. Keep in touch carol

Come on... you are young and fit - YOU CAN DO IT. I'm 55, 5'7 and weigh 11 stone 10. I've never been all that heavy but since the menopause have piled it on. I just want to lose about one and a half stone gradually. You are completely right - do it for yourself - let's do it together.

One day out of 365 isn't going to out weight on you, just ficus your mind that tomorrow is your day but Thursday is back to trying your best. We will get there together even when we have good bad andbloody ugly days :-)
