training while having back problem

hi everybody!

I went under surgery in 2006 for herniated disc (L5 S1), so I stopped training. Just walking and, when I had the money, swimming. Now I cannot swim, so I can walk, or do some low impact exercises. Any advise?

;)

Which sort of training are you doing?

Love,

matilda

Funny you say that, because iv just gone to doctors and they said I have the same.. I play badminton so it can cripple me at times...when it does, I go the gym do non impact spthings like elliptical trainer, rower, cycle...yes rower. You need to contract your abs and build up your core to not only strengthen your back but also your front to balance it out and take the strain off your back. So working on your abs very small motion crunches can build up your top abs with only a few inches of movement and yet your spine will not curl up to aggregate you.

Speverytime i do this in the gym, I can then push harderm a few days later and I'm also back to normal. Herniated discs can hurt like hell, but sitting still doing nothing, does not make things better it makes it worse. Staying active to somewhat will help you strengthen to be able to cope. Hope this helps you, I'm not a physio and I am indeed going to a physio next week so I'm sure he will give me more exercises etc. but I'm a sports scientist and the above has helped me cope with the same condition. Everybody is unique and individual and our spines will not be the same so try apt he above take a pain killer if you need be if you feel genuine pain stop what your doing and get professional help. Bt stabilising your core and working on these muscles will help support your lower back.

Good luck
