If you look on the C25K community you will see 100's of us saying the same thing at one time or another when we first started C25K, honestly you will, I'm not saying it to make you feel better :)

What ideally you need to do is take measurements of key areas, like hips, waist etc when you start C25K because I bet you will then find that you've trimmed up.

There are a few theories to why a lot of people seem to gain a few pounds when starting C25K, the main one is increase in muscle density. Your legs have some pretty big muscles in them, if they've not been stressed for a long time and you start regularly exercising them, then they can be expected to grow. The other is your body becomes more efficient at storing Glycogen (Fuel) and you start storing more as you become fitter and stronger.

Running becomes a great aid to weight control once you are regularly running good distances, so keep it up it will be worth it in the end.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your response I have completed the C25k and I am now on c25k + but only over the last two weeks I have been going out 3 times a week again it's just so disheartening when u see the scales going up

You may be gaining muscle? Muscle weighs heavier then fat/water.

It can be very disheartening, I've experienced the very same thing myself more than once. The gain could be for a number of reasons, could be just something as explainable as water retention.

Obviously try not to become disheartened to the point where you throw the towel in, keep going I am sure you'll see results eventually. Also be mindful of the fact that you can inadvertently end up overeating all be slightly when you increase exercise routines because you do become more hungry as you require more nutrition not just for energy but for cell repair also.
