There's a calculator here thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-.... If you follow the 5:2 Diet (I lost three stone in six months) then you eat up to your TDEE on non-fast days and one quarter of that on two non-consecutive days a week.

The best part about this 'way of life' (rather than diet) is that once you've lost the weight you want to, you just 'fast' on one day a week. I've been the same weight now since April.

I tried to do your calculation but I didn't know your age. I thought you were doing C25K?

I believe for a woman it's around 2500 calories, the trick is to make all those calories protein fats and oils, if there are no sugars and carbs your body won't make insulin to store excess and if you need extra on a good calorie intake your body makes a hormone to go into your fat cells and break down the body fat, if you don't eat enough your body will go into starvation mode and stop things like cell repair and replacement, so eat well mostly fats and create the environment where your body wants too produce glucagon and where you don't feel hungry.

Most of what you say is either untrue or misleading, bruggen.

There is no 'overall' amount for all women. 2500 is very high. Everyone needs to calculate their own TDEE (Total daily energy expenditure) using age/height/current weight/activity level. It's more likely to come out around 1800-2000 for scottishlass1's height and current weight.

It's not possible to cut out all carbs - it's the refined type that have to be used with care. Fruit and veg are necessary in a healthy diet and they contain carbs.

There is no such thing as 'starvation mode' unless you eat well below your basic metabolic rate for weeks. Fasting on a couple of days a week helps the body to repair itself.

Advising someone to eat high levels of fats, without defining the TYPE of fat or knowing the person's medical background, is also very risky.

I believe that you are wrong Renka and I don't want to argue but there is no such thing as essential carbohydrate and you can live your life very easily by excluding carbs such as rice, potatoes, pasta, bread and white flour. If you are in any way right then what you are referring to is the small carb content in vegetables which of course you can't separate but it's so small as to be negligible and veg is great so long as you don't come up with five a day or any number a day. Fruit is a natural sugar delivery system and with very few instances give very little with regard to essential vitamins and nutrients, great for extra energy though, that is a fact. But please don't take my word for all of this, lookup Zoe Harcombe on YouTube for a little bit of education, she is a nutritionalist and has over twenty years of experience studying this subject, it certainly opened my eyes. For a starter please read as much of the following link as possible.

What you are saying is by not eating for a couple of days then your body thinks, I know I will do lots of repairs today! That just doesn't make sense. It's more like your body will not do repairs that day because of the lack of fuel.

Unfortunately the media and food industry has em demonised fats to such an extent that it's almost ingrained. Fats are in Zoe's words described as anything that had a face or came from something that had a face, so all meats, eggs cheese, milk etc, oils are also good for you as long as they are as unprocessed as possible, butter, olive oil, coconut oil, these are all good and have equal quantities of all of the essential fats.

Don't mean to be contentious but all of this is true and not misleading, just read and educate yourself, in a nice way, certainly wish that I had done this twenty years ago.

You have your opinions but it doesn't make them right. You can go online and find 'research' or some 'expert' to 'prove' anything. But if you want to miss out on essential nutrients and fill your body with fats then that, of course, is your choice.

Everyone finds their own way and just because something works for you does not mean than anyone else SHOULD or MUST do what you do.

It is extremely arrogant of you to suggest that I should 'educate' myself just because you believe 'your way is the right way' and that anyone who does not do things YOUR way needs to be 'educated.

Lots of information on the site which this forum is part of. The programme recommends 1400 a day unless you have been eating a lot more than that, if so then reduce down to 1400. Lots of advice on the site about exercise as well. Good luck with your weight loss journey.
