What's causing armpit to blister?

I was so pleased to have completed c25k at the age of 53 and overweight, I wanted to take control of my health. Following a run I noticed a small sore spot under my left arm, thought maybe chaffing from the run, but they continued to spread start as sore spot to fluid filled blister, that are really sore feel like they are burning then pop to leave large sore. Had antibiotics and they healed, left some scarring but thought they'd gone but now I've had some more and I went back to Zumba classless week and it's made a new sore appear - GP said its a staph bacteria causing it - but why? How can I get rid of it to run again as I need to exercise but they are so sore and only under and around left arm.

Any advice please - have photos if it helps

  • Hi Radleychick,

    Thank you for your question.

Firstly, congratulations on completing the c25k! You are clearly focused and determined and I understand this issue must be hindering your resolve. Some people do get recurrent folliculitis/ blisters/ abscess if they have had one in the past and some people are more susceptible to infection from the skin flora. The best thing to do is consult your GP again who can refer you to an appropriate specialist.

Sorry that I can't be of any more help.

  • Thank you, I have made another appointment as I just need to know what it is, and how to prevent it so I can go back to exercising !!
