No periods at all!

I haven't had a period without being on birth control since I was 18. I'm now 40. I was diagnosed with pcos at 21 and again at 25.

For the past 15 years I've been chronically ill with Hypermobility Syndrome, which exacerbated my spinal deformities meaning I wasn't in a position to think about having children.

Recently, I started taking CBD oil and have had a big improvement in my condition. Its left me hoping that my husband and I can possibly become parents.

Only problem? I don't have periods. My bloods show that my oestrogen levels are ok but my LSH and FSH are very low, and queried if I was on the pill. I'm not.

Anyone else in a similar position hormone wise? Anyone gone on to successfully have children?! Hope so!

I think I just need to know. And yes, adoption is a possibility, but I need to know why my body is broken!

I had my children early in life and while on birth control as it seemed to kick my hormones into gear. If you are cycling you could still get pregnant but not getting a period is an indication you are not cycling. Also to prevent some cancers you should be getting your period at least once every three months. You should talk to your doc. Also, not to be negative or anything but 40 is already fairly late in life to get pregnant for someone without pcos, you should probably ask about that as well. Hope this helps.

I know it's late, but like I said, my late 20s-30s were spent in agony so it wasn't a suitable time. Did you say you got pregnant on the pill?

Yes, the birth control seemed to make my cycle go again and so I got pregnant while taking it.

That actually makes sense. My last blood test came back as though I was already on the pill so was marked by the duty doc as fine. Thankfully, I know my hormones are far from normal so looked into it.

I wonder if my body is protecting me from pregnancy due to my back being so knackered?!

Hey there, I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 have been on a pill for the past 20 years! When I stopped last September to start trying for a baby I didn’t get any periods at all! I then started with Clomid but before I took Provera to have a period first. I’m on my third months of Clomid. First month I took 50mg and it didn’t work but the next months with 100mg I ovulated. I’m really hopping that in the next few months I will finally get a bfp!! Good luck :)

One advantage of pcos is our egg quality remains better for longer compared to non pcos ladies - You do not need a period to ovulate either so you may well be ovulating anyway (and a period doesnt mean you ovulate which was my issue, relatively regular periods but rarely ovulated) - I would get the ball rolling, yes 40 is mature (I was 36 when I conceived Noah who is now 12) but you have a greater chance than someone without pcos so go for it

Hey, that’s interesting but I’ve heard the exact opposite! Eg. Higher failure rate with IVF even because egg quality is lower in PCOS due to excess of different hormones. Just wanted to put that out there as I didn’t want anyone reading that to get their hopes up and take that for fact! I know there’s so many different sources of information out there but I was told by that PCOS produce lower egg quality so maybe there’s confusion out there about that!

I think there is often differing opinions on pcos which can make it frustrating. I have heard it from numerous experts when I was a Verity trustee that our egg quality remains better for longer though.

Which didn’t happen, they couldn’t get any blood out of my vanes. Too hot and sticky, so going to the hospital on Monday instead. :)
