Hi Ali, this is a great poll as committing to a plant based diet is not only a big change it's a challenge. What puts me off is I'm a coeliac and because it took them so long to diagnose me gluten has attacked my colon so I also have micro-scopic colitis and osteopenia, due to prolonged malabsorption.

I became a vegetarian when I was 19 but when I was 30 and struggling with anaemia and getting diagnosed I reverted. Since becoming active on HE I have become vegetarian again and my blood levels are good but I am very intrepid about taking it one step further even tho' I avoid most cows dairy as its calcium that keeps my bones strong. The osteopenia was borderline when diagnosed and nearly 20 years later is still borderline and the microscopic colitis which means the individual cells of my colon are prone to bleeding. Which I keep under control with diet so well that I have a badge for being a blood donor. So again it is borderline and not Crohn's disease. And this is why I avoid alcohol and astringents.

So I clicked other because of my medical conditions and I'm sorry that this is long winded.

Jerry 😊

Hi Jerry, thank you for your reply and I don’t blame you at all. If things are working for you why would you change it and possibly cause things to become unstable. It sounds like it is a delicate balancing game for you to keep yourself in your best health.

Giving up cheese was difficult. Milk and ice cream, no problem.

I can understand that. I thought I couldn’t live without cheese!

My only concerns were health related, I was very poorly and trying so hard to eat right for each of my conditions. I had been vegetarian since I was 14 and really wanted to be Vegan, but as my diet was so limited anyway it was really difficult, I was frightened of making my health worse (if that was possible) I done a lot of studying and managed to claw back my health and at prescent I am the healthest i have been since I was 19. I do have supplements to ensure I get enough but I am so happy being a vegan, not just health but standing up for our lovely little animals
