Thanks I'll see my gp

Hi jeanette65,

Problems with the kidneys are most often silent, that is they don't present with any pain.

It may be that you have a urinary tract infection ( UTI ) which can cause pain in the kidney area. Either way a trip to the GP is in order. It's important to get a sample of urine dipsticked and sent to the lab for culture. Kidney problems show up in the urine ( presence of protein and blood ) long before blood tests ( U&E's ) are deranged. Does your Consultant check your urine at your appt's?

Hope that helps

Thanks for that. I've got appontment with go Friday. And no consultant or gp have never checked my urine. Is that bad?

Yes! They should really be checking your urine on a regular basis ( with a dipstick ) if you have Vasculitis. It's a simple, cheap and effective test to do.

Hi Jeanette. What type of vasculitis do you have?

I was diagnosed in July 2013 with MPA. I was near total kidney failure but had no symptoms.

Glad you're getting those precious kidneys checked out! Good luck!

Hi Michichgo l was disgnosed with GC A in January this year so it's all my large arteries. There was a large amount of inflamation around my aorta which showed up in the pet scan. Things have settled down I was on 60mg of pred now down 7 mg.I also had 2 days of steroid by iv of 1000 at the beginning which then left me with 2 fractures of the spine but my rhemy said he didn't have a choice because he had to hit it hard.Im still not right but Rheuemy said it takes time to recover, and I'm expecting too much. Am now waiting for my gp to ring back. Are you o k now?

I am in remission (or what they claim is remission) but struggle with boughts of fatigue and ongoing flu like symptoms. However, they saved some of my kidney function; I'm estimated to be at about 25% and that's sustainable.

Taking high dose Prednisone is like striking a deal with the devil. I'm sorry you suffered a spine fracture. Ugh! I've had to undergo 2 hip replacements. It's not easy, is it? Truly, best of wishes to you.

Iv got pan and just been in hospital for 2months with kidney infection on face sides but at different times I have one kidney that works 18% and have had that since a child and had no problems up to now the dipstick don't show up anything but in a petri dish did show some culture I don't think this is associated with my vasculitis and it definitely does cause pain and fever I just had to make sure that it wasn't the vasculitis that had done it fingers crossed it wasn't I think I was a bit dehydrated and it's easy for your kidneys to get affected if dehydrated to make sure you drink lots of water at least 2 litres a day not to take ibuprofen because that's not good for the kidneys any reason I knew I had a problem was a because I did have pain but also because I remember feeling this way when I was little girl. At first I thought I just slept wrong on the mattress

Dear Jennette,

I can answer this question, absolutely definitely, YES. I had Kidney Failure occur, when I first collapsed-eighteen years ago. I was 'Pre-dialysis', for nearly eleven years-followed by dialysis, three times a week, for four years. Two and a half years ago I had a Kidney Transplant, at Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge. Since then I have remained fairly 'stable'.

Vasculitis can attack almost-if not every-organ in the body-Kidneys being one of the most common. On of my Consultants once stated, to me, that "sooner or later 'most people' with Vasculitis 'end up' on Dialysis." This may not always be the case but it certainly answers your question!

Sorry to be the bringer of 'doom', as it were, I honestly DO send you my very best wishes.
