Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice can affect some medicines. In most cases, it increases the level of the medicine in your blood. This can increase the risk of side effects or alter the effect that the medicine has.

This is a great link, thanks Suzy.

I was also told to avoid orange juice as they, especially pomelo oranges and seville oranges, can also interact in the same way as grapefruit and I read the labels of mixed juices as sometimes there is a small amount of grapefruit or orange juice in it but not enough to be listed on the front

as the main ingredients.

Dear Suzy,

I do know this- apparently if you had/drink grapefruit after so long, and before so long then you can have it! To be honest unless you are really, really, really fond/addicted to it really don't bother. After all is it really worth all the sodding about? I'll admit that some 'mixed fruit' drinks might contain a bit but again, almost certainly, not worth worrying about either. In short unless your going to 'drown yourself' in the stuff then really don't worry about it, too much, I don't! As regards other fruits, of the 'citrus' variety I give the same advice. No cause for 'sleepless nights' and all that!

Best wishes, take care everyone.

I am led to believe a grapefruit can multiply the affect of some drugs by in some cases more than 10 times, which can of course be very dangerous. I understand that grapefruit has an enzyme that is not found in other fruit

You will find the warning on many prescriptions, & the list is being added to all the time.

Hope this helps

Tony
