24 years ago. Was Mesna even available?

Interesting question? John had Mesna with his IV infusions 15 years ago, but not when taking Oral Cyclophosphamide for 5 years.

I have had cyclophosimide quite a few times over the last two years and I have always been given Mensa tablets before the cyclo and tablets to take a few hours after the treatment

I was alergic to the mesna, unfortunately it took 3 doses of cyclophosphamide before we realised it was the mesna and not the chemo.

I was given oral cyclo for nearly 3 years and throughout the whole time it was painful to pass urine. I have been off it for 18 months now and it has eased but not completely gone!

Was also given an anti sickness tablet too. Was also advised to drink loads of water after the IV. If memory serves me,I'm sure the mensa was given about an hour before the drip was set up.

Was given oral cyclophosmanide 8 years ago - Mesna was never mentioned. However, I was not on cyclophosmanide for very long as it affected my liver.

My cyclophosphamide was given at Addenbrookes and I was given both Mesna and anti sickness tablets before the infusion started. But had to stop after two infusions because of the allergy rash which covered me from top to toe. Now wondering if the rash came from the cyclo or the Mesna?

NB the timing of MESNA is not always given as per BRS 2014 guidance which is worrying for patients

I'm in Australia & not offered it. In fact I've never heard of Mesna! Just told to drink loads after infusion to rinse bladder.

I was not offered but just told i needed to take one 2 hrs before and one 2 hrs after So I just did as I was told

My cyclophosphamide wasn't for vasculitis, I had it with 5Fu and Epirubicin for cancer.

I was on oral cyclo for 6 months for my MPA diagnosis 2+ years ago. I was never offered mesna & never even heard of it. I'm in the States, just outside of Chicago.

I had 7 infusions of cyclophosphamide at Addenbrooke's, but I don't recall Mesna ever being mentioned. I had anti-sickness tablets to take, and was told to drink plenty to flush my bladder.

was mesna to prevent feeling sick? (or at least what I was told) the name sounds very familiar, I remember some occasions been given it as an IV before cyclophosamide treatment some days was after. but never as a tablet. 2013

Sorry maybe I'm just stupid-that is probably it, all right-but what is 'Mesna'? I was on Cyclo. when I was first ill, some eighteen (well almost) years ago but Mesna??????

Can someone enlighten me please? Sorry to be a nuisance.

No, I wasn't offered MESNA in any of my 6 doses of Cyc. although I asked for it, as after the first dose of Cyc. I couldn't pee for 24 hours - I think my kidneys shut down in response to the Cyc. Bloated up with all the water they got me to drink! Told the ward sister who offered to catheterise me even though a full bladder was NOT the problem. Grr. maybe that's why I lost so much nerve function after each dose of Cyc. i.e. couldn't get the by-products out of my system. hmm, got a pituitary tumour now, wonder if it could be connected?

Love to all

Rob.
