Toddler Symptoms - Worried Parent

Hi. My first post, hello everyone!!

I’m not the sort of parent to worry or overthink things. My 5 and 2 year old have only ever attended the GP got immunisations. But my 2yr olds behaviour has been niggling away at me recently.

At first I thought he may have some sort of food intolerance, he’s a fab eater and will eat anything but refuses bread/pasta/biscuits etc. At least once a week he will become bloated, I’ve not made a connection as to if it’s related to a food. His little belly sticks out, he isn’t uncomfortable. The next day he has a small appetite and won’t drink much. So his nappy begins smelling strong and often sweet. I connected that with dehydration.

Then I noticed this sweet smell even when he isn’t dehydrated. My 5 yr old even said to me ‘why has he had sweets, I can smell them’ sort of smells like hard boiled sweets.....

He’s never been a petite child but he just got weighed for his 2 yr check. He gained 0.5kg in 6 months. Dropped from 75 to 50 on the growth chart.

So I take him to the GP and just ask for advice. To be told he may have a food intolerance but will probably outgrow it. I asked about the sweet smelling urine and he said that’s normal. I feel like an idiot for taking my child to the dr. Then this weekend he’s been drinking loads more than usual. I ask my mum to smell him (as my brother is type 1) she instantly said to take him bk to the GP.

Do you think it’s just parent anxiety? The GP can’t say anything new from last week can he? He’s always a tired child, I can’t say that’s new. He sleeps 12 hours each night and 2-3 at nap time.
