Hi Denise,. You should absolutely see your doc. Diabetes can be managed using the right meds? The sooner you start these meds the sooner you can get the diabetes under control? The opposite is also true. Come on, get your head out of the sand and take action? Best to you!

Hi Denise, sorry to hear you’re worrying about a potential diabetes diagnosis.

I would highly recommend you make an appointment with your Gp ASAP because as soon as you get seen the quicker you can find a Treatment to start managing the condition, + there could be a chance that you dont actually have Diabetes, if this is the case a Dr can stop you from worrying.

I’ve had type1 for 22yrs since I was 6 and whilst it’s incredibly hard to manage it can be done. With you being 52 it is more likely to be type 2 or one of the other categorisations which is why it’s important you see your Gp. The good news is that type2 can usually be reversed with exercise and a healthy low carb diet, sometimes this isn’t possible in which case tablets are usually prescribed, if these don’t work then the last option is insulin injections, but it’s unusually the lifestyle advice that’s offered first. Diabetes isn’t curable, as if you went back to your old habits it would most likely come back after remission or if it’s genetic based type 2 then you can’t rid yourself of it completely.

Diabetes can cause pain in the legs but this is usually due to something called neuropathy but this only usually occurs after years of mismanaged blood sugars. Do you have the classic symptoms such as extreme thirst, needing the toilet often, extreme tiredness & a dry mouth? These are more common symptoms but because diabetes is a disease of the endocrine system it had a large variety of symptoms. Please, please go see someone as the longer you leave it, the more damage it will be doing to your body. I know it’s scary and it will be an adjustment if you get the diagnosis but you will learn to manage it.

If you’re really scared you can always buy a blood glucose meter from a pharmacy and test your blood sugars fasting & after meals to see what the results are saying.

I really hope you manage to see someone & good luck with everything. x

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your worry. But, you should not delay it further. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to a host of complications. You can read further here - webmd.com/diabetes/guide/ri...

Also, diabetes cannot be cured, but it can be REVERSED.

Here are some diabetes reversal techniques to get started -

1. Weight Loss - Obesity has been linked with type 2 diabetes. For each kg of mean weight loss, there is a mean HbA1c reduction of 0.1% points. Read more - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/284...

2. Nutritional Ketosis - Going on a low carb high-fat diet or the ketogenic diet helps in diabetes control by lowering blood sugar levels and reducing weight. Read more - blog.virtahealth.com/revers...

3. Reduction in Chronic Low Grade Inflammation - For patients with diabetes, inflammation is a significant contributor to insulin resistance. Treatment of this chronic inflammation is not just important for diabetes control, but to reverse diabetes or pre-diabetes, and also for preventing type 2 diabetes.
