COVID Boosters. Continue or Stop.

Hello,

With recent stories of side effects due to the COVID vaccines, mainly heart problems, I was wondering if any post transplant recipients (14month for me) have refused the boosters on the grounds of these stories which are certainly gathering momentum.

It seems that any media, group and social media are pushing these issues, which are making me consider if it’s worth continuing with the vaccines.

Thanks in advance.

The data clearly shows that Covid is still a significant risk while risks from the vaccine are infinitesimally small….

I understand your concern, but I wouldn’t get information from social media or the press… but the scientific community who can actually assess the risk rather than pick something out and turn it into a headline to profit them rather than benefit you….

Have you discussed it with your medical team?

No, but I have discussed it with medical people, nurses and a doctor outside of my renal team. They are all unanimously in favour of stopping or have stopped their boosters.

This is where the doubt and confusion exists, if some of the medical professionals are stopping these vaccines, is there something there that we should stop.

Agreed that the risk is “infinitesimally small”.

I had 2 jabs but would definitely not have any more after both my wife’s parents died from blood clots within a couple of weeks of having the 2 nd and 3rd jab. I have friends who were very fit and healthy before but now for unknown reasons are not ! Had covid myself and was nothing more than like a mild cold for me. The way the vaccine has been pushed and now the proven lies they said how it worked just don’t add up to me. Any one who questioned it got shut down and cancelled ! Wouldn’t surprise me if this comment is taken down. Good luck what ever you decide. Stonebroke

I completely agree Stonebroke. Too many brilliant doctors being shut down. There’s no debate about any of it, just one narrative from the government. I think they’re stopping the jabs now too. You made a very good decision to stop. 🤔

In the end it's a matter for yourself however I have had POTS and gastro problems with my first Pfizer vaccine (16 months ago). I had 2 more otherwise would have been sacked. There is plenty of information coming out saying that the vaccine has many side effects which are wirse than the virus and even that you are more likely to catch the virus after vaccinations.

Post 2nd transplant 18 months and I have only had my first two vaccines which was just before transplant in 2021. No boosters of other covid vaccine since. I have had my flu this year but that is all.

Health wise had None hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosed last may and had Rituximab treatment, finger's crossed in full remission. Had a few bugs and the usual flu going around but fine, even with a zapped immune system 🙂 Yep there are a high proportion of viruses about I just use common sense and try not to put myself in any compromised situations.

Pre this transplant I had previous transplant for nearly 29 years and had no health problems 😎 my personal view in regards to covid vaccine boosters is have them if you think you need them but I'm good. Do think the NHS decision to drop the monoclonal antibodie treatment Evoshield wasn't a good idea but that's another thread.

I am continuing with vaccine. After 4 years on dialysis my main priority is looking after my kidney transplant. My daughter was a live donor for me I have not had any issues yet so will be ok. I guess it’s your call

hi PaulLey, I have had 6 jabs now (AZ x 3, Pfizer x2 and the new Pfizer double pronged version x 1) with no side effects or problems.

I haven’t had Covid.

I know many people who have had it, both mild and severe with a 3-6 month recovery. I don’t know anyone that has had a bad reaction to the vaccines.

I am on my third transplant, this one donated by my husband just over 2 years ago.

I work in the health sector and am intent on protecting this precious gift.

I was so ill before this transplant, I wouldn’t be here now…

I have stopped reading anything on social media about this, as with every big public news story there are self serving disruptive characters with no concern for the welfare of others - only how they benefit from spreading fear, division, anger and uncertainty.

Look at the way masking is now being pinpointed with insidious stories creeping in to mainstream newspapers - there is no good reason for this, people still masking are trying to protect themselves AND others, so why campaign against them - what do these characters have to gain by focusing on something that makes no demands and is not hurting anyone?

I would focus on the information from the medical professionals in your renal team (discuss with more than one of you’re not sure) as they have the expertise to consider the risks of not having the vaccine in accordance with your specific medication and medical history.

I hope you feel comfortable with whatever decision you make and take care.

My Transplant Coordinator and Nephrologists told me to get the 5th shot. I also got a Flu and the Tdap. I am the same post-transplant as you (14 months).

Don't get the booster. !!!!!The night of the booster I had "what they think"a heart attack " followed by "afib". I never ever had any problem with my heart. Luckily My primary care doctor at UofM arranged to have athe Watchman Surgery. I am now off all heart meds and biking 50 to 70 mles a week. My kidney doctor told me "on the side" not to take any of that stuff ...shots , boosters etc. I am 6 years pot kidney transplant. My kidney count is around .75 !!
