Tourette's & menopause

I have had Tourette's since childhood. It's manageable. But now I'm starting peri-menopause it has gone nuts. Tics so bad I am struggling to speak. Is this usual?

GP is no use at all.

I would suggest you are more tired, stressed generally. It would be worth you paying to get your hormones tested. You can try G.P but if the G.P says nothing wrong it would be best to get them tested privately as NHS only do the basic test.

Which hormones and what would I be looking for? I've had the blood test to confirm peri.

I'm not doubting peri menopause. However you can and are very likely to have both adrenal and thyroid issues which are contributing to your stress levels. I know of a good private practitioner and a different testing company but it is up to you. I am completely independent of these I am just recommending from past experience.

I'm male and found my TS much worse as I entered my 50s. I'm 63 now and taking Xenazine, things got so bad.

I would say it appears to worsen with age.

I think I may be experiencing the same thing. Did you by chance figure anything out?

Hello, I have noticed a huge increase in my ticstoo. I am 47 and I suspect pre- menopause might have something to do with it. I was perfectly fine for years and it gradually became worse. Over the last 3 months, I have even experienced urges to swear and shout silly phrases. I find it really difficult to cope with the huge change in my life. I am on medication “Risperidone “ just now. Not seeing improvement yet but hope it will help. I wonder if something can be done on the hormonal side. No real confirmation from my GP nor specialist about it. And if it is menopause, what do I do about it? Have you done something about it yourself?

I am finding it more complex post menopause. I have a group of tics that are now simultaneous. Kind of like I need to get over it all at one time or it feels unfinished.
