Are period pains normal in early pregnancy? I am only 6 weeks & 2 days gone, but I get them along with a heavy feeling in my back.

Hi

Sharon22

Yes, in most pregnancies, mild cramps are normal especially in the early stages. This is usually attributed to the different changes your body is going through as it prepares to carry your baby. They are nothing you should worry about, but you could mention the, to your GP or midwife especially if it is persistent. The most common cramps occur when the embryo is implanting itself into the wall of the womb, which occurs at around the same time you should be having the periods. As the womb starts to change shape and grow in preparation to accommodate the baby, you might also feel some cramps. Sex is another cause of cramps especially if it leads to orgasm, so do not panic when this happens either unless otherwise advised by your doctor. I hope this helps!
