Just leaving to give a talk entitled, "Hypothyroidism and the Elderly". I'll be telling them that they probably DO NOT need a reduction in levothyroxine! :-)

Good for you Lyn - the treatment of the elderly is a travesty in many cases. Great you are supporting the cause - it's our future too perish the thought.

And many need to be tested and START medication along with vitamin D and B12.

The medical profession will probably just have said "it's due to your age" and the suffering continues.

Hope it went well - sorry I couldn't come! :(

Hi Lynn Sorry, I don't understand. What do they need then? My Mum is 91 and I'm sure we could be doing something more for her.

Hi mstp, We are getting people contact us because the docs have reduced their mum's levothyroxine because the TSH is low in range. The patients feel absolutely fine until the dosage is reduced.

I have some research here that may be useful - enquiries@thyroiduk.org

Hi Lyn, Is this info something we could make available to everyone via the website, rather than it being offered only to those who know to email you personally for it?

I'm hoping to write an article on the subject soon with the research links within the document. Trying to make a start on the next magazine at the moment.... :-)

In my line of work (bearing in mine that l'm on the bottom rung of the ladder) l have seen some patients with a slightly suppressed tsh and they had their levo reduced only for their tsh's to rise way out of the reference range. The trained staff just hate it when l mention thyroid so l tend not to do that too much.
