I believe that breastfeeding is the best way to regain your figure. I think you referred to Swimming World but I think you meant Slimming World.

I think you are doing exceptionally well at the moment to have lost nearly 1 1/2 stone in 5 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about losing much more till your baby is weaned. You have to eat properly, as you have said, so that baby will get the best vitamins etc from you and it may also benefit you if weight is a concern.

If you are on the correct dose of thyroid gland medication, your weight should reduce.

Congratulations on the birth of your little one, breastfeeding is an excellent way to loose weight, and although very time consuming especially in the early days you need to eat well, not only for you but for your baby. With a well balanced diet and breastfeeding you will continue to drop weight but you need vitamins & minerals to replenish what is bing used up to keep you on top form. I have struggled with my weight for years and I am currently pregnant so I too will be joining the breastfeeding weight loss club. I really don't think you'll need slimming world if you continue to bf. :-)

Dear Anna, You have lost alot of weight in five weeks- My thyroid probs began after the birth of my first child when my thyroid stopped functioning (underactive) when i had my second child i lost my pregnancy weight very quickly infact too quickly & a blood test showed it had gone over active and my dosage of thyroxine was lowered. so please if your thyroid hasnt been checked go to the doctor and have it checked.

Also i urge you to eat healthily if possible as baby is eating what you are! from your milk & it needs fruit veg & meat not processed foods i know this may be difficult for you but you dont have to cook fruit and some veg. Perhaps go on the 'change4life' websites for some easy healthy food recipes. Your midwife should be giving you some guidance and booklets on healthy eating and gentle exercises you can do- walks with baby now the weather has improved get out in the fresh air.

try not to focus on your body weight so much Anna i know it is important for you but recovering after pregnancy and baby are priority first by eating a bit better and gentle exercise just enjoy your baby as baby changes and grows so much in the first year. Please look on the website i advised as it gives lots of advice on healthy eating and exercise

good luck

Hi Congrats, pregnancy and childbirth do effect the thyroid, for some time after wards. Weight ( over) once stop beast feeding, is normally related to low Free T3, often we need T4 ( Levo) and T3 on a script, it depends on the test results, T3 also lowers the TSH, and often needs to be in the top of range. Always have your results and ranges ( all different , at different Labs). Try not to worry and enjoy this time and see what happens,Slightest thing effects the body.

Best wishes,

Jackie
