Curious about levo and caffeine plus vit D and calcium.

I take my levo at around 6:15 each morning. I have breakfast around 8:15. Would the caffeine intake at that time -- 2 hours after taking my meds -- be a problem?

In addition, when I saw the endo last week she said I needed to take a vit D and calcium supplement, not just vit D, as the two need to work together.

Any info on either of these issues? Thanks.

No the caffeine you are having two hours after your meds shouldn't effect it, but if you are worried it might then maybe you should try taking your levo of a night, just before you go to bed with water. It is now suggested by the medical profession that the levo absorbs better over night with no food or drink to interfere with it.

Did you have your calcium levels checked when she did the VitD blood test? and do you have any blood results you can post.

I will link you a document from Bart Hosp in London that explains exactly how the VitD/calcium issue works. Have a look and see what you think. There is a lot on this site regarding vitD and calcium so you might also want to use the search tool at the top of this page and look at previous posts.

Hope this helps

Hi well Nice do recommend that vit D and calcium are taken together. However, D causes the calcium to rise. Once calcium out of range ( high) then vit D has to be stopped ,no matter what the levels are. I would start by having a corrected calcium test. Also even if only on D, both should be retested after 3 months. Corrected calcium must always be in its smallish range, an electrolyte and very dangerous out of range. I was on huge doses of vit D, script, eventually. On the same dose for over a year.Suddenly my corrected calcium went above range, first endo and I reduced the D, then in end had to sop the D altogether. My D is very , very low and nasty! It is my personal opinion that D should never be taken with calcium, it is normally given like that to protect the bones. My endo who looks after both never recommends D and calcium are taken together.I have severe osteoporosis but no choice. Often the GP has to make a case for prescribing just vit D, as off the guidance recommended.

I hope that helps. you to decide.

Best wishes,

Jackie

That is very interesting, Jackie. Thank you. I am getting thoroughly tired of the rigid adherence to ranges. It takes the pressure off of medical practitioners to actually think.

Oh I do so agree! I actually had a long argument with my cardio, a top man, telling him that my bloods did matter for me, s I have so many bad co morbidities.. He said that they never matter and so he tells all his juniors, but when he caused me to have an acute renal failure, he changed his mind!
