They should investigate anyway as the pituitary produces several vital hormones, have you had an MRI/CT scan too? Are you experiencing Hyper/Hypo symptoms?

I had acute thyroiditis in 2006 leaving me with hypothyroid put on 75mcg but not monitored or increased for 3 years then locum upped Levo to 150 after chest infection no blood results done just said they would increase. Have 3 yearly MRI scans tumour not growing so discharged in march 2013 however have felt really ill for two years gp lowered to 100 as he said to high a dose asked endo if these could be related he said no different lobe of the pituitary but it feels the same way I felt after the thyroid packed in in 2006. At my wits end as gp not listening first time I have asked questions on the net and now sure it's linked somehow but don't have the knowledge to go back yet.

Sorry I'm no medic, but as you say you have to glean knowledge to be taken seriously, it's just that my Dad had acromegaly and I think that any 'growth' on the pea-sized pituitary could well impact on the function of the rest of the gland (also read that on NHS patient.co.uk) and personally think it's too much of a co-incidence that you have thyroid trouble too!

I'm so glad it's not growing 'tho, but honestly, they have discharged you? I would ask to see a specialist - or a different specialist.

Meanwhile have you looked here? (sorry I can't find a support site on HU).

Do you have recent Thyroid blood tests to post?

Also don't forget vitamins/mineral tests, supplementing may ease a few Thyroid related symptoms irons/ferritin/folate/B12 Vit D for starters.

To be honest I'm shocked at your lack of care, my Dad was treated with 'kid gloves' (although problem slightly different - still a 'growth') and pituitary problems are NOT something to be ignored! Can you see another GP? I think you need to make a fuss (an inadequate word sorry).

I was told 'lots of folks are walking around with a thyroid nodule' just like me, 18 months later FNA told a different story & they acted straight away - a different doctor actually took notice. Hugs Jane :D

Are you being treated for the prolactinoma?

Dopamine and dopamine agonists

Dopamine and dopamine agonists inhibit TSH release by mechanisms discussed earlier. Dopamine infusion can overcome the effects of thyroid hormone deficiency in the severely ill patient, suppressing the normally elevated TSH of the patient with primary hypothyroidism nearly into the normal range. (38) Dopamine causes a reduction of the amplitude of TSH pulsatile release, but not in its frequency. (312) However, chronic administration of dopamine agonists, for example in the treatment of prolactinoma, does not lead to central hypothyroidism despite the fact that there is marked decrease in the size of the pituitary tumor and inhibition of prolactin secretion.

Get an alternative opinion...I'm hypo & have a prolactinoma, after a year of back wards forwards, diff meds, thyroid scan's etc, have come to conclusion that definetly prolactinoma is causing hypothyroidsm. I have been doing lots to manage thyroid through diet,k rest, exercise, but for the prolactinoma I tried for last 4 months taking Gugul - an ayurvedic medicine, so going to see Neuro on wednesday - he will probably request another mri as it's been 1 year now...need to check if this bugar is growing...will try remember to update, so many posts on this sight, I battle to keep up!
