Hi all

How long should one stop thyroid and adrenal meds before having stress test and thyroid tests?

Cheers

Not sure about the adrenals, but the advice for thyroid seems to be not to take your dose on the morning of the test.

Could someone please explain this to me as I'm not understanding the logic behind this. My blood nurse said you need to take your dose as normal, so that you can see the replacement thyroid drug is working?

Confused, befuddled and muddled...

Thanks, Mary

I think you want to see how things look at your lowest point. Obviously if you have just taken your meds, then this isn't going to be your lowest point. If you usually take your meds first thing in the morning, then your lowest point is just before this. i would suggest booking an early appointment and then taking meds straight afterwards. xx

I'm doing the tests myself claire. 24 hour urine. I was going to stop my meds Monday for testing Wednesday. I couldn't have gone from yesterday to Wednesday without them!

A little understanding of how it works.

Any blood test only tells how much of the med is in your blood but as we know it's all the movement after that which reveals whether it is helping you at all. So a high reading because you have just taken your T4 can be very misleading.

especially if your T4 is not converting to FT3 and entering at the cellular level.

I am reliably informed that meds should not be stopped for the urine test!
