Does anyone know a good thyroid Dr in the North West?

It seems all the good thyroid doctors are down south. I'm interested in getting my t3 checked out as I'm struggling to lose weight on thyroxine, and i believe t3 is good for metabolism

is it private or NHS you need/want?

if you email Louise Warvill from TUK (Thyroid UK) she can email you a private doctors list that people have find useful.

I went privately to Dr S in Birmingham and am still under his care

Hi It is true that T3 certainly helps weight and it usually lowers the TSH.Before it was available I had armour, now I need both. it made a huge difference for me. If you want a cheapish private endo in Warwickshire, send me a PM Click on pretend picture.. I do not know where exactly you live. You may not want to travel so far. One of the many advantages of seeing an endo private or NHS is that they write and tell the GP to prescribe. Otherwise it can be very expensive, certainly T3 is on a private script.of course too they do all the relevant tests.Mine treats me for lots of different endo problems.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie I'm new to all this thyroid buisness. I'm currently taking thyroxine 50mcg one day 75mcg the next. If i'm being honest I feeling quite well on it, lots more energy no depression. I just can't lose any weight even though i'm killing myself in the gym. I live in Greater Manchester 20 minutes from the City Centre. I actually looked on the internet and found some recommendations for Prof J R Davies at Manchester Royal, not to far from me. I just need to gather my evidence now to take to my GP as I probably need a referal.

Thanks again,

Yana

Best Endos do seem to be down south or Scotland. I also read those recommendations on internet but my GP refused referral for a 2nd opinion but intend changing GP and will try again. I rang the Prof's secretary who was very nice and helpful and she said best to get a GP referral as it would be too expensive to go private. I live in Greater Manchester and under a totally hopeless so called Endo at other Manchester Hospital. Waste of time and parking costs going there as Endo did not even do mandatory examinations and seems to have a hearing problem - or does not listen !!! Good luck and I would be very grateful if you could keep me posted.

Thanks Isis, I'm wondering whether then it might just be worth paying for a private blood test then, and taking the results to my GP. If my bloods are showing low t 3 surely they can't argue with that and would have to prescribe alternative treatment. The other option is to go to my GP and offer to pay to get my t3 levels checked, as I'm sure they dont do it routinely. Some people have done that and most doctors will back down and agree to it. The only problem is most GP's dont know how much dosage to give to people as theyr'e not experienced in that field. I'll let you know how i get on, when i've plucked up the courage to go!
