Had my blood tests done on Monday the drs surgery has just phoned and said the dr has asked me to stop taking the vitamin supplements and retake my blood test in 2 weeks now I'm really freaked out.

I have been taking vit b12 ,vitamin c and vitamin d has anyone else had this?Coupled with the fact I went back to docs as I feel rubbish.

Hi VanessaB, can you call them back and ask for the exact results? If you are over dosing on vit D, that's important to know. However, many docs don't understand about B12 and freak out if the labs come back with high blood serum levels, which, as I understand it, is nothing to worry about at all.

So, before 'doing as you're told', get all the test result numbers and post them here.

They didn't test vitamin d so I can only presume it's the b12 but I will go and get the results.

If it is the B12, you cannot overdose as excess is excreted. I have pernicious anaemia and my level was around 1,500 to 2,000. As it is so much lower I am investigating although GP says it is 'normal' but I know it isn't for P.A.

Hi Did you have a calcium test before starting vit D and occasionally after on it? If the GP did a separate calcium test then it may be out of range from taking the D ( even if D low). If out of range you have to stop vit D immediately. If it is this then, you need a calcium, vit D and parathyroid ( PTH) done am together. It may indicate a pTH problem, nuclear scan, CT and ultra sound. The D may just be high for you, not above range. others more obvious.Regarding vit C it used to be recommended but latest research is against taking it.Make sure you have had TSH, T4 and Free T3 tested. often the thyroid problem can be low FT3. You may need treatment with T3 on a script. Only way to discover this ,if feel "off" is from a blood test.

Best wishes,

jackie
