New to forum and just being diagnosed: can you help?

Hello! I have just been tested for under active thyroid and given the results - which the Doc says she wants to monitor and re check in a months time. My TSH is 5.78 and T4 is 11.1. Reading up on the net suggests this is more than sub-clinical. What do you think? Should I be pushing for treatment?

Welcome to our forum Retrogirl

We need the ranges of your blood tests. If you can get a print-out of your results it will give the ranges which will make it easier to comment as labs differ.

Regards

Hi - back from the docs with results in hand! TSH level 5.78 (range 0.35-5.5) FT4 11.1 (range 11-23) comment is 'high' but also MCH (mean corpuscular haemoglobin) is 32.3 (range (27 - 31) and comment is 'high' . I see from googling (!) the 2 are linked?

Thanks for doing this and I would say that with your TSH level that you have a thyroid problem and your T4 is low too. I am not medically qualified so I would ask if you would copy and paste the above into a new question as yours have now moved off the main page so that more knowledgeable people will comment too. Has your GP tested for antibodies?
