Hi JJ

Do you have thyroid problems. I started getting sleep apnoea, which is very scary. It turned out, for me that I was taking to much levothyroxine, I was on 150mg, this gave me sleep apnoea, reducing it to 125mg my problems completely disapeared

I developed sleep apnoea at the same time as they discovered I had an under active thyroid, the sleep apnoea is due to the chronic amount of weight that I have put on despite excercise and diet. No doubt like a lot of you the resulting effect is just depressing and no one seems to listen to you they just say,"keep taking the pills and try to diet"

Hi Yes I had the home test and have the worse problem ever known at the clinic. Even sleeping during the day I have to have a CPAP, it is horrible but to some extent you get used to it, the alternative is a tracheotomy. I even stop breathing with the mask on. Unfortunately everything geared to very overweight. I am tiny and originally GP said sleep apnoea was impossible!! I already knew from my hospital admissions.! If in doubt have the simple test.

I am hypothyroid and take 100mcg thyroxine. I also have obstructive sleep apnoea and have used a CPAP since Nov 2011. The CPAP is great and I can't manage without it. If I go to bed during the day I use it. I didn't know of any link between the two conditions but certainly the sleep apnoea is weight related. I would urge anyone with sleep issues to get it sorted by a referral to a Sleep Clinic. Initially though, the british snoring website has simple tests which you can do in seconds to determine the cause of your snoring.

I am a week in and getting used to it ...

I only have moderate OSA a ahi of 26 ..

So i am hoping weight loss will mean i will not need the cpap from now on ...

good for you. Well my AHI was 18 and was described as "severe". With the CPAP it's usually around 1 or 2 (anything under 5 they are happy with). All the best
