I have been going to the gym 3 times a week (1 1/2 hours) since May but have not lost any weight. I am so fed up now unsure what to do. I eat sensibly. Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 40 I am now 64. I take 150microgram tablets a day. Help!!

I have a similar problem re weight. Recently I stopped eating wheat as I had read that there are sometimes a link re the metabolism of wheat and hypothyroidism. I still have to eat sensibly and exersise a little but am now losing about 1lb a week. It maybe worth a try. Kind regards. Maggie

Hello

I am 61 and have found the only way to lose weight in the gym is to purchase a heart monitor and make sure you work out to maximum heart rate for 30 mins. In my case this is to have my heart rate at between 158 and 163. Not easy but i have lost weight and managed to keep it off. On the down side you have to keep it up. The best exercise is the spinning class or just using the spinning bikes if they have them readily available. my gym now has one with a video programme attached. Of course one must continue with the eating sensibly for life. Sorry i cannot give you an easy solution

Thank you I will purchase a monitor, our gym is very basic the cross trainer, bikes and treadmill. I think it could do with an update. I am seeing my GP next week to see if he will do a blood test early usually done in March. However, he has never informed about my levels so I am going armed with some questions this time.

Thanks

Hello,

What's your TSH and T4? I think I started losing weight when mine was TSH 0.64 and T4 23.

My Mum has recently had her dose increased to 150mcg due to the same problem, her T4 is still only about 11, so it could be that your dose is still not right. My Mum has started using 'My Fitness Pal' which she found helped.

Thank you. My doctor has never informed me about my levels so I think I will book an appointment with him.

Just a handy peice of info for when you go back and see your doc, I have been advised by the endocrine that the TSH should be between 0.27 and 4.2 and the T4 should be between 11 and 22, but most people feel better when the TSH is near the 0.27 end of the range and the T4 nearer the 22 end of the range.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the info. I see my GP on the 17th December so will go armed with all my evidence.

Thanks
