Hi can any one tell me how hair loss takes place, does it come and go. Can it fall for about 5 months then seem to stop, and then start up again? regards June

Hi June,

I imagine it is related to your levels and some people say that the seasons affect their hair growth. I know a very good hair loss treatment, it really helps grow more hair when it thins: serum stimulactine 21 from lazartigue (you can buy it on the internet).

Hope this helps

Hi Cosycat

Presently I too am very concerned regarding my hair loss/thinning. It started about 3 years ago but not like it is now. My hair is so lank and wispy. Although if someone didn't know me they would still think my hair was ok BUT... it won't be if it carries on like this. I have just had some private blood tests done with Genova Diagnostics (to speed things up before Endo) They showed that I had very low TSH 0.009 high T4 and high levels of Reverse T3. I went to hosp to see Endo this week and he said he doesn't think its my thyroid which is the problem ( I have all the symptoms other than depression of Hypo I have been on Thyroxin for 12 years but never felt well) so he is testing my Adrenals with a Synachen test, checking bloods for Ferretin, B12, Cortisol etc. I am still a bit so so about it as I would have thought The high levels of Reverse T3 would have been the problem. I have spoken with my hairdresser about this and she explained about the growth cycle of hair but she thought it would probably be my Thyroid. Good Luck don't waste time go to your Doctor. xx

High levels of reverse t3 mean the t3 you make from T4 can't be used by the cells as the reverse t3 is in the way blocking the cell receptors.

so you will be hypothyroid no matter how much t4 you take. You need t3 only to clear the reverse t3.

Reverse t3 is made to get rid of excess unused t4. What is the endo doing about this?

Hello there Nelly B. Mmm I thought just the same as you. I really did expect that the endo would take me off Thyroxine or possible combination of T3/T4. But no.... I am still taking 100mcg's. The results were Total T4 (T4) 135 (58 -154). TSH (TSH) 0.009 Low (0.4 - 4.00). Free T4 (FT4) 21.00 High (10 - 22). Free T3 (FT3) 5.83 (2.8 - 6.5). FT4:FT3 Ratio 3.6 (2.0 - 4.5). **Reverse T3 (rT3) 0.71 High (0.14 -0.54). Thyroglobulin (TG) <20.0 (0 - 40). Peroxidase (TPO) 159 (0 - 35). The summary was that Hyperthyrodism is probable.....I have been treated for Hypo for last 12 years!!!!! I am gutted . What do you think? Any advice welcome

Hi Cosycat

Just an afterthought. Whilst I was doing some research about thyroid and hair loss I read somewhere that Oil of evening primrose may work. So I went out and bought a bottle from Boots their own make Evening Primrose Oil 1500mg lemon and melon flavour 2 x 5ml tsp per day. I can't comment on it yet. I can't remember how much it cost (foggy brain) in fact today I had forgot it was in the fridge, decided to continue taking it as I had forgot it was there and took 3 x daily amount. Anyway the bottle is nearly finished. It must be used within 3 weeks of opening. Another product which slowed hair loss was Perfectil Hair Skin and Nail supplement extra. But to be honest I have so many other symptoms that I decided to go to the Doctors as I can't afford to waste anymore time. Good Luck xx

I am going through the same issue - hair loss. I just started treatment for hypothyroid and the hair loss as yet has shown no signs of stopping. I am loasing handfuls and have lost around 2/3 of my hair.

I have two testimonies that I can share with you: my aunt, who is also hypothyroid, told me that her hair stopped shedding after around 3 months of treatment and she has not had major problems since. She says that the key is to stabilize the hormones. I also have a friend who is hypthyroid and she also says that the key is finding the right dose. She says that she still loses hair (more than the average person) but she is not by any means bald!
