Thyroid S - aching teeth?

All my teeth are aching and making me feel very irritable. I have been to the dentist had X-rays and there is nothing wrong. Dentist manipulated my jaw bones which was very uncomfortable and suggested I might grind my teeth during sleep, and is going to make me a guard to wear at night. I don't discount this theory but I have never been known to grind my teeth before.........This does coincide with taking my new medication Thyroid S.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Grinding teeth or clenching jaw when sleeping both common hypothyroid symptoms

Mouth guard is excellent and should help

Thyroid and vitamin levels need testing 6-8 weeks after changing NDT

Margo,

There was a teeth-clenching discussion a couple of days ago. Seems it’s quite common.

Do you take magnesium? Taking it early evening was a suggestion from my dentist to help muscles relax. I use magnesium glyinate as I find this gentle in the stomach, but other types are available.

Yes I do take Magnesium. I take MagnesiumGlycinate too in the evening, also a magnesium spray (Better You) I think magnesium is brilliant stuff.

But I do question why the teeth issues happened at the same time as starting the new medication Thyroid S, when I have never had these problems before. It seems to me my front teeth are the ones that are more problematic.

Thanks for your input.

From memory: grinding teeth can be associated with insufficient calcium, and, magnesium and calcium need to be in balance or one can become depleted. I'm wondering if the magnesium you are taking may be more than you need. (I'm not a fan of supplements except when needed so not promoting calcium here)

interesting reply. During the removal of my thyroid, one or more parathyroids came out too. Now it is essential I take calcium, D3 , K2. It is a lot of guesswork as I don’t have frequent blood tests as I should.

Oh crumbs Margo, it's tricky finding the balance without those extra complications!

Thank you for shining a light. I don't know what any of my hormones are doing. However, on TR Mann I was taking 2 grams, and I went straight on to 2 grams with Thyroid S. Thinking the new pills might be aggravating my teeth I have dropped down to just one tablet a day and I think I feel better for it...I am now thinking of adding a little T3 to see what happens.

I was pretty ok for a few years, and this seems to happen to me all the time, I get something that suits me, and then it doesn't or it is discontinued. Oh well as Winston Churchill said "keep bug*ering on"....)

Thank goodness for this site, it really does help.
