Advice please on daughter's Medichecks results.

Hi

my daughters recent results show an improvement in her levels after adding 25mcg levo to the previous 100mcg she was taking.

She has been taking 125mcg for 8 weeks.

She also takes vit D, B12, iron, Biotin and a multi vit.

She occasionally takes a B complex but finds they make her feel sickly.

She did not take any B complex or biotin for a week before the test

Results

CRP HS 0.69 mg/L Range 0 - 5

Iron Status

FERRITIN 88. 8 ug/L Range 13 - 150

FOLATE - SERUM 11.26 ug/L Range 3.89 - 19.45

VITAMIN B12 - ACTIVE >150 pmol/L Range 37.5 - 150

VITAMIN D 116 nmol/L Range 50 -200

Thyroid Hormones

TSH

Sample error

FREE T3 4.15 pmol/L Range 3.1 - 6.8

Autoimmunity

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 13 IU/mL Range 0 - 115

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 12 IU/mL < 34 R

She is feeling better than she did on the 125mcg levo. but has not quite hit her sweet spot so do you think she should add in some more levo. or add some T3 onto her present dose of 125mcg levo.

Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you.

Just to mention in case this is helpful to other members, my daughter started taking Biotin as it is good for hair and nails and she is delighted her hair has grown so much, her nails are a lot stronger, but the most surprising thing to her delight is that the outer third of her eyebrows have grown back.

Thank you, she has been on this dose for 8 weeks, would the levels increase further after another 8 weeks on the same dose?

yes, almost certainly will carry on improving

Feeling sickly after taking a B complex might be due to it containing Folic Acid. Some of us with the MTHFR gene cannot process this unnatural vitamin but we do thrive on the methylated form 5-MTHF methylfolate. Check the content of her B complex.

Thorne basic B is the one recommended around here and is the correct form of vitamins.

Thank you, she has tried tablets, sprays and drops all with folate in and they still make her feel sickly, not sure what could be causing it.

Exactly which ones has she tried?

The recent ones are the drops by BioCare, I will have to check the others with her. I think it is the smell that turns her stomach.

perhaps try Igennus

Small tablets, zero smell …..can cut in half or 1/4’s to try

Igennus were the 1st B Complex I took last year. I took 1 every other day, and it seemed like the smell which I didn't really notice at first, just got stronger and stronger. By the time I finished them they really stank.

I'm near the end of a bottle of Thorne Basic, which I also take every other day, and I've noticed that they are getting a bit pungent now, which also wasn't really noticable at first.

If it's down to smell........maybe the answer is to change them out regularly.

Thank you but she notices the smell when starting the new supplement, the smell and product makes her nausious.

There are several different forms of folate. Its trial and error to find which one suits you. Apparently this is determined by certain genes as to which one suits you.
