Latest blood results. Help please

Hi, I just had my tests done yesterday 8am

Last levo taken 28h before and last vit D about 18h before.

Everyone always talks about the tsh levels but are my T4 and T3 correct? I can tell that I'm overmedicated now so likely to be put back on 50/75 mcg alternate days. I've been on 75 x 6 and 100 x 1 since 12/01 and suffered from irritability, even anger, SOB, high BP and palpitations.

Vitamin B12. 376.0 ng/L.

Standard Range 211.0 - 911.0 ng/L

Actually that’s quite low

Was folate tested previously

Low B vitamins

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended brand options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

If serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months, then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

Was test done early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Ferritin still very low but improving slowly

Is this just by increasing iron rich foods in diet?

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Probably hold at this current dose levothyroxine for next few months

Work on Improving low vitamin levels and this likely to improve symptoms

You might then find you could tolerate small dose increase in levothyroxine in say 6-12 months

bajmon profile image
bajmon in reply to SlowDragon

Keep the dose even with TSH 0.18? I have never had it so low even before any thyroid issues. Best result for me was in the area of 1.5

I had full iron panel done on 31/12/21 and endo was happy with it so I am not supplementing, the same as B12 which she was happy about. The only vit I'm taking is D and C

Tbh, I had a stake the evening before my tests so perhaps that's the increase you can see there in ferritin. I wasn't aware that ferritin will be also tested.

Tests were taken at 8 am fasting with no levo for over 24h prior and no vit D for about 18h. Tbh, I was going to see higher vit D levels after a months of a high dose every day.

If you read posts on here regularly you will see ferritin and B12 are (too) low

NHS only tests and treats vitamin deficiencies

They’re not interested in the fact thyroid patients need OPTIMAL vitamin levels. That’s down to us to improve

Are you currently taking any magnesium supplement, or just vitamin D

bajmon profile image
bajmon in reply to SlowDragon

I take magnesium occasionally. Should i make it a regular? Would you say that getting an appointment with a nutritionist would be beneficial?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to bajmon

I would suggest you read posts on here

Especially the many posts and replies on vitamins and supplements by humanbean and SeasideSusie on the importance of GOOD vitamin levels

If you were to consider seeing any nutritionist you would need to be extremely careful who you pick

bajmon in reply to SlowDragon

Yes, as in my post, and above, test done 8am fasting. Last levo taken 27h before I have two different levo brands but will request only one. I'm limited though with the odd 25mcg to get 75

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to bajmon

Which brand do you prefer

Mercury Pharma make 25mcg, 50mcg and 100mcg tablets

Accord only make 50mcg and 100mcg tablets but if prefer Accord you can cut 50mcg tablets in half to get 25mcg

bajmon profile image
bajmon in reply to SlowDragon

I've got both. I tried to cut the 50 when i was short of 25 and they just crush to a powder so not a great option

A sharp craft scalpel …..Or a pill cutter should work
