Light headed and panicky

For the last few weeks I have felt as though I am having either a heart attack or panic attack. No pain in chest area but feels strange, when walking left arm feels weak only occasionally mouth feels dry but not thirsty. Yesterday played football with Granddaughter but was more or less ok.

Actually passed out over a couple of weeks at night after stomach and head feeling strange, felt sick and dizzy. Could TSH be too high, last blood test a couple of weeks ago TSH 0.95 (0.2-4.0)? Any other ideas please?

I have spoken to GP she wants to monitor my heart over 24 hours but that won’t happen for 6-12 weeks she said.

FT3 3.9 (3.1-6.8)

FT4 18.1 (12-22)

TSH 1.88. (0.27-4.2)

Previous post shows terrible conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Previous post you mentioned on PPI

All PPI are to treat high stomach acid

Most hypothyroid patients have LOW stomach acid. Virtually identical symptoms but very different treatment

Insist on GP testing vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine at each prescription

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested. Do you have Hashimoto’s

If yes, are you on strictly gluten free diet

Thanks for replying. I stopped taking PPI due to side effects.Vitamin D was tested 49 (50-100). Have trouble taking anything with fillers but have just started some Vitamin D today without any. I always have the same brand.

Don’t think doctor was going there with other tests but could ask. I thought same as you.

Antibodies were tested some while ago everything ok.

Vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some CCG areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7. As it’s absorbed in mouth you don’t need to wait 4 hours between levothyroxine and vitamin D

Feeling dizzy like walking on a boat....or if you turn head too quickly suggests low B vitamins

Low vitamins are due to low Ft3 and poor gut function

Low vitamins results in even worse conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Insist that GP test folate, ferritin and B12

Also request ultrasound scan of thyroid

20% of Hashimoto’s patients never have high thyroid antibodies

Come back with new post once you get vitamin results

Thanks. Yes it does feel a bit like been onboard ship and the turning of the head. Where should FT3 be in ranges please? Will get bloods tested.

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to greenfingers

Currently Ft3 only 26% through range

Most people will need Ft3 over 5 when adequately treated

I was getting that lighted headedness in around 2017/18 .

If I looked up, trying to look up at the supermarket top shelf, or bending down as well. I fell a few times too.

I was taking Phenergan to help me sleep - it had been prescribed for me by another GP in the practice, because I have a hell of a job sleeping - but my GP who I saw on this occasion and asked about dizzyness stopped the Phenergan because he said it had been proven that Phenergan caused the dizziness issues.

I didn't stop them, I carried on buying them because they are an antihistamine and ok to buy over the counter because I didn't agree with him. And once I started my B vitamin supplements I was no longer getting dizzy.

I had no idea that low B vitamins could cause that, but if I see the GP again I will be sure to tell him!!! LoL

The same GP stopped me using an oestrogen pessary thing as well that had been prescribed to me after a visit to see a gyennie at the hospital because he said I didn't need that either.

He reduced my Levo too when I was still complaining of hot flushes which were going on day and night, because he said I was obviously taking too much of that as well. That wasn't after a blood test either, just because I asked why I was having them still.

Those have disappeared too now. Thank goodness for supplements, that's what I say. They take some time to get going, but I would never think of reducing any of them now.

With those symptoms you don't want to wait 6 to 12 weeks for a heart monitor.

Have you thought of ringing NHS 111? It would give you someone else to discuss your symptoms with. This link tells you more about this service.

nhs.uk/nhs-services/urgent-...

It is gradually being recognised that women's symptoms for things like heart attacks are not always the same as in men. I can't give you a link, but try googling for 'heart attack symptoms in women'.

I suggest you make a list of your symptoms and ring 111 to discuss.

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

The aim of levothyroxine is to increase dose upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is ALWAYS under 2

When adequately treated, TSH will often be well below one.

Most important results are ALWAYS Ft3 followed by Ft4.

When adequately treated Ft4 is usually in top third of range and Ft3 at least 60% through range (regardless of how low TSH is)

Extremely important to have optimal vitamin levels too as this helps reduce symptoms and improve how levothyroxine works
