Try not to worry and the members who are knowledgeable about Afib and have had a thyroidectomy will respond when they read your post.
Hello Raoudha :
When did you have your thyroidectomy and have you been prescribed T4 - Levothyroxine and if so at what dose ?
Thyroid hormone replacements is not a quick fix and T4 can take a few weeks to settle:
T4 is a storage hormone and needs to be converted by your body into T3 - the active hormone that the body runs on and your ailty to convert the T4 into T3 can be compromised by low ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D so maybe ask that these get measured and when on T4 we need these vitamins and minerals at optimal levels and not just in the range somewhere.
Are you still under the hospital and see the endocrinologist ?
Do you have any T3 and T4 blood test results and ranges so share with forum members ?
I have had RAI ablation so I too do not have a thyroid but have never suffered Afib symptoms.
A fully functioning working thyroid would be supporting you daily with T1. T2 calcitonin plus a measure of T3 at around 10 mcg plus a measure of T4 at around 100 mcg.
Some people can get by on T4 only, some people need to add back in the " lost T3 " from your own hormone and some people need to be taking T3 only - do you have any blood tests results of T3 and T4 levels or is it too early in your recovery for this to have been actioned ?
Mille Merci
I had operation on 21/5/21 they are waiting for iodine Scintigraphy after 3 weeks to see if remains carcinoma around so they didn’t t give me thyroid hormone Kose it can interfere with iodine scinti But calcium and vit D evryday place betablokers for Afib
Dear Raoudha, calcium is usually given after a thyroidectomy if the parathyroid glands have been damaged. They sit close to the thyroid gland but serve the totally different purpose of processing calcium. They can be disturbed during the operation and later start functioning normally again or they can be damaged and calcium supplements are a lifelong requirement. Did they test your calcium? At your next appointment ask the doctors about this and make sure you get tested.Salutations!
