T3 suppliers post Brexit

Good morning, I have for the past 3 years been obtaining T3 via a NHS prescription from a Germany for €30 plus postage. The reason for doing this is that o did not want my CCG to stop my GP from prescribing. The prescribing was initiated by my endocrinologist after I proved that I am heterozygous for DIO2.

After and initial battle, my GP agreed to prescribe.

I have now been advised by the pharmacy that they cannot supply any drugs to the UK post/Brexit.

I have been dealing with breast cancer treatment since 2019, almost 2 years now and I just cannot cope with any more stress.

Can anyone DM me with possible T3 suppliers please? I do have a prescription.

Many thanks.

Hi Rita-D, if you have DI02 gene you should not be refused an NHS prescription. Your Endocrinologist should instruct your GP to issue on medical grounds. It maybe that you cannot get Thybon because of Brexit but you can obtain Morningside T3 and Mercury Pharma T3. I know you don't want to switch brands but a reliable brand and the same brand each month is important. I find Morningside better than Mercury Pharma but we are all different. You should approach your local MP if you are refused an NHS prescription. You should not have to pay anything for your medication nor face undue stress whilst fighting breast cancer. On that note keep positive, my mum had breast cancer in her fifties and she is alive and still kicking at 88! I can pm you a supplier for T3 without prescription but it would be Turkish Tiromel or Greek Cytomol. I haven't had to order any yet, I just needed a back up plan. At the moment on 60 mg of T3 but Endocrinologist dragging their feet about a further increase even though Free T3 only 45% through range and still hypothyroid. In your case I would think it paramount to your breast cancer recovery that your T3 levels are optional and maintained. Your other option would be to find someone who has a relative living in Germany who could fill your prescription for you and post to UK, even though you could do without the hassle. I do feel for you🙏🙏🙏

My GP is writing the prescription and he knows I’ve chosen to purchase from Germany. I wanted to prove to him how much I needed it. I think because I’ve been purchasing from Germany means it’s been flying under the radar of the CCG who have black listed this drug. I just don’t want all the hassle of another battle to get it.

Someone has sent me contact details for someone who supplies Tiromel so I’ve ordered some. No prescription required. I’ll have to tinker with dosage again as it’s 25mcg tablets not the 20mcg like Thybon Henning, but at least I’ll have some T3. I can only tolerate Mercury Pharma T4 as the others give me side effects. I’ll have to see how I go.

Thank you so much for your response though. I really appreciate your help. xxx

Hi Lulu, Bennewitz in Germany told me they can no longer accept prescriptions from non EU countries nor can they post medicines to the UK . I am now looking for an alternative supplier. Best regards, Scot

Specialist pharmacies in U.K. can now supply Thybon Henning 20mcg tablets at approx £1 per tablet

More expensive than previously direct from Germany but still significantly cheaper than U.K. T3 at £138 for 28 tablets

Ring around these for best price and wether they will accept NHS prescription

Hi there Slowdragon, thank you so much for your reply.

I’ve now managed to source some Tiromel, prescription free at £20 + postage for 100 25mcg tablets. They’re stronger than Thybon which is 20mcg, so I’ll have to tinker with dose to get it right and hope there’s nothing in the fillers that I react to.

It’s good to know that you can now source Thybon in the U.K. through specialist pharmacies.

Thanks once again for your help Slowdragon. You are a fount of knowledge and I only found out about the DIO2 gene through this forum.

Take care and stay safe. Rita xxx

Timorel has reputation for being a bit weaker, so you might find it’s about the same as 20mcg Thybon Henning

That’s interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I’m on 125mcgs of Levo and 20mcgs of liothyronine at the moment. I’ll start off with a full tablet and see how I go. Thank you.

Hi SlowDragon, I'd be grateful if you tell me the names of suppliers of T3 that I can order from directly. Bennewitz in Germany cannot accept my doctor's prescription from the UK nor post to the UK because of customs regs. But you probably know that! Best regards, Scot

Thanks SlowDragon. I have called a few but found them expensive. I have tried Direct Pharma in Turkey; I'll see how I get on.Best regards,

Roseway is £1 per tablet

Considerably cheaper than U.K. T3

in reply to SlowDragon

Thanks, that's helpful.

(Name removed by admin) charges $20 for 100 plus $20 shipping so that comes out as £31.52 including the transfer charge so about 32p per tablet. I may pay more with customs charges. I used to pay EU31, £26 for 100 tablets so about 26p per tablet with Bennewitz in Germany. I don't know why the UK pharmacies charge over £1 per tablet even assuming customs charges.

Best regards,

Scot
